Black ink is cursed, if it has been sitting a while, there might be solidification. I just disconnect the lines one by one and run a thin wire through the ink tubes to see where it's blocked. Since the pumps are diaphragm, they have to be moving to be pumping basically, they might get some flow...

Since these printers use low-slung MBIS (Mimaki Bulk Ink System) tanks, they use diaphragm pumps located in the upper right side of the printer instead of gravity fed valves like the UCJV.

Anyone know of a freight company that can deliver something like a JFX500? The things look like a total behemoth to handle, but looking to move one in to print massive stupid things. Looks like they originally came in 2 parts. The one we're wanting moved is already assembled.

Right now I am sourcing commodity head control boards and firmware for them. Hope to be able to have a conversion system ready for testing by July.

The TFP heads are higher DPI, but Epson seems to be keeping those for their own in-house stuff. Obviously, more DPI is usually achieved by multi-scanning the print or dedicating multiple channels per color, and we're not likely to see any real increase in DPI past the TFP unless we start...

Moving ink manually has a bad habit of making it barf ink inside the pressure/vacuum lines destroying valves, lines and stuff.

The i3200 heads are offered to aftermarket suppliers and are way better and far cheaper than the clunky old DX7 stuff. Epson absolutely keeps their best heads to themselves, but they are finally releasing modern heads again.

Yeah, that is a total rabbit hole of BS. Firmware update requires a special software too given to tech for most current printers.

Being able to design a flatbed, conveyor, roll, jig or press style printer that can be built from a kit or pre-built for well under half the cost of existing printers while still getting modern hardware would be pretty powerful. Also, the things you don't get would be nice. Set the ink channels...

We mix specialty inks, so we're building a test printer for that amongst other things. We also have a big stash of heads we might turn into a big flatbed UV printer for doing things like signage and such. Mostly just wanting to open the tech more to tinkerers more than anything else.

After doing lots of homework on the hundreds of dirt-cheap Chinese DTF, solvent and UV printers flooding the market, I figured there had to be some basic ecosystem to them. Most of these printers are based on commodity parts, off-the shelf printheads and tend to share a vast array of parts...
