View Full Version : Corporate Identity Assignment

Okay students ... it's been a while, but we have a new assignment and design contest for you.

What we have is a new enterprise being started by the Shagnasty brothers, Billy Bob and Bubba. They will be marketing their exclusive line of gourmet meats and snacks. The scope will be international, utilizing mail order, ecommerce, retail stores, shopping mall kiosks, and home delivery. Operations will be both company owned and franchised. Once established, their plans are to go public.

Billy Bob, Bubba and their cousin JR (who is a recent recipient of an MBA and is the CFO) are, apparently very well funded ... having just sold the family farm left to them by their grandma. It was about 2,000 acres just east of Atlanta, GA.

The new enterprise at this point is nameless. Signs 101 has received an ample retainer (some of it still living) to develop their corporate identity from scratch including the name of the enterprise. We will be looking for logos, slogans, graphics for both print and signage branding.

This is your starting point:

http://www.signs101.com/images/VarmintControl550.jpg

Designs are to be posted back to this thread no later than midnight, Friday, December 1st, 2006. Beginning Saturday, December 2nd a poll will be posted and all registered members may vote for their favorite design. Voting will close at midnight Eastern Standard Time on Saturday, December 16th, 2006.

The winning designs will each receive their choice of a number of very nice prizes being donated by Signs 101 Merchant Members with 1st place getting first choice etc. on down the line until we run out of prizes. Prizes will be announced at a later time.

Entries are limited to registered Signs 101 members. Multiple entries are permitted, however, consideration should be given to the possible dillution of your outcome. Withdrawal of an entry, at the request of the designer, is permitted. There is no cost to enter ... just upload directly to this thread. Should there be more than one design but related to the same design entry, it should be uploaded to the same entry post. Multiple entries should each be contained in their own entry post.

Newer members, please do not be confused. This is a contest with prizes that should be a lot of fun. The "client" is fictious and no use of the designs is intended. It is an exercise in creativity ... nothing more.

i want to commend you for your creativity for dreaming this one up Fred. I predict that based on what we have been given to work with here we are going to see some incredibly creative submissions not to mention some very humorous submissions as well. I am anxious to see what everyone comes up with for this one....let the games begin and may the best designs win.

In keeping with their desire to expand globally and become an international franchise, I've borrowed from Rock Cafe and included the city name for a few franchise locations. And think of the merchandising possibilities! T-shirts, hats, mugs, etc.

Hey Toucan...

You should be ashamed of yourself. You left out Baghdad, where this is a delicacy.

Road kill is considered top notch over there and served in their finest restaurants left-handed to the public... except for the few that eat at McDonald’s where it’s Camel Dungo Burgers. That’s why they wear those veils… it hides the lizard entrails.

Fred, I would like to participate.
I have a slow speed connection and I envision that by the time hundreds of submissions are made that it will take about an hour to download this thread. The folks at letterhead had a similar problem and somehow divided the post to make accessability faster.
Is there anyway this could be made for comments/submissions?
Thanks...Ken

I don't understand the need to download the thread Ken. The images would have to be done individually anyway and they are no larger than 800 x 800. And my concern would be the confusion it might cause others.

Are you saying that when you click into the thread here it is too slow? If I understand the issue a little better then I can change the structure if there is a clear benefit.

Ken
10-29-2006, 08:28 PM
Yes Fred, that's basically it. When I click on the thread it takes about 40 seconds to appear at this end. Though, it was faster today. Like about 30 seconds. Not an expert at all, I think the thumbnails slow the process. Perhaps just internet traffic volume...

The brothers were able to buy a new pick-up and pole building with funding from their meat-grinding/turkey jerky venture.

Dale, your short questions don't have short answers.
If you need help figuring out how to prepare an image for uploading, I suggest you help those who will be helping you by identifying what you do know to make it easier to help with what you don't know.

For instance, you do know that you need to upload an image that can be viewed on the web, so what are your intentions, do you plan to create a .jpg file from your design?

What programs do you have? Will you be designing in Illustrator and exporting as a .jpg

Or do you have Photoshop? Will you be able to open your design in photoshop?

If you can open in photoshop, you can pull down the "image" menu & choose "image size" from there you can specify 72 dpi AND you can specify the height & width in PIXELS. Don't worry about inches, you need a rastor image made of pixels, so you should be able to identify the pixel dimensions.

If you don't have the programs or the knowledge to check your pixel dimension, but you do have a .jpg file, you can look below the box where you enter a reply & click on the "manage attachments" button. This is where you can upload an image to signs101 directly from your computer. If it is too large, a box will pop up & notify you what dimension you tried to upload. This would help you determin if you should shrink it 75%, or 50% before you try again.

Well, ‘Hot Digity Dawg’ and by the way, some of them thar are good eatin’ too. Ask Hop Sing.

Here’s our take on this from our shop. We all played with this from time to time over the last few days and would like to enter this. As you can see, Bubba isn’t quite sure if that was part of Billy Bob or Jr. sticking out from under the truck. It has a hoof on the end, but nobody is asking questions as to who or what went on at the farm before the big flood [2,000 miles east]. Both have youngins that bah-h-h when you call them so, my guess is… it’s Jr. partly sticking out there. We were told that human grinders don’t taste as good as the vermin eating because we humans eat ALL kinds of crap, so we dar’cent get any human parts mixed in with the good vittles.

Whether you want from the ‘Canine Cuisine’ or the ‘Bag ’N Gag’ section of their menu, everything is dead, on bread or breaded. Flat Cat has always been my favorite… be it single or in a stack.

bon appétit :thumb:
