TEMPE, Ariz., April 6, 2004 - Mutoh America Inc., a worldwide leader and manufacturer of large format commercial inkjet printers, today gave birth to the latest addition of its Falcon line of outdoor ink jet printers with the introduction of the Falcon Outdoor Junior. "Junior" has a 36" print width for producing bright, vivid, outdoor durable images on a wide variety of inexpensive, uncoated media. Best of all, "Junior" is affordable, at $10,995.

The "Junior" prints with Mutoh's award winning Eco-Solvent PlusTM inks to produce high-quality, outdoor durable prints that will last up to three years without lamination. "Junior" is easy to use, runs on standard 110 volts and does not require ventilation. With its high quality piezo print heads, "Junior" can easily produce 24 - 3 foot x 4 foot images in an 8 hour day at 720 dots per inch (dpi).

To produce decals and images requiring contour cutting, Mutoh America offers the "Junior" bundled with the Mutoh Ultima vinyl cutters. The Ultima utilizes a laser guided cutting system to accurately register and contour cut with "Ultima"te precision and speed. With "Junior" and Ultima you can print and cut simultaneously and Ultima’s 39 ips cutting speed is not compromised like combination printer / cutters. The "Junior" and Ultima 850 are bundle priced at $13,995.

"Junior makes outdoor durable printing affordable for almost all sign shops," stated Mutoh America’s Vice President, Business Development, Guy Cipresso. "The Falcon Outdoor Junior and Ultima 850 create a fantastic print and cut solution that is affordable and easy to use for under $14,000."

All Falcon Outdoor models utilize Mutoh's renowned motion control and media handling technologies, including an automatic take-up system for unattended printing, and individually controlled pre- and post-heaters for instant drying and wider media compatibility.

Every Falcon Outdoor includes Mutoh's ISIS Print Manager and Mutoh edition RIP Center software, as well as 1-year on-site warranty service. The Falcon Outdoor Junior printer, priced at $10,995, will begin shipments in June 2004 and will be seen for the first time at the ISA show in Orlando, Florida, April 15-17, 2004.

Yesterday, August 26th, Mutoh US representatives finally responded to my inquiries from May. Glad I wasn't waiting for a part.

The most interesting part of it, and I state it as a caution, is that there is a considerable difference between the Mutoh Jr. media dimensions and the "matching" plotter they would have you buy.

The printer accepts media up to 37.5" and will print "full bleed" to 36". The matching plotter, however, will only accept slightly over 30" media and has a max cut height of only 25".

So if this print & cut system interests you, I would consider pairing it with an OPOS equipped Graphtec which will come closer to being a good match.
