My name is Len Smith, I am an owner of a large solid surface shop in California. We specialize in multiple unit projects, and routinely have scraps of solid surface material left over, which we would be willing to sell.
Most of the pieces we have are sink cutouts. Most are vanity sinks, but some are kitchen sinks as well.
Our quantities can range from a few to as many as 4,000.
Additionally, we will have a CNC arriving next month for our fabrication of countertops, but if you need corian blanks cut out in a particular size and shape, we could sell you the scrap material cut to your specifications.
If you have an interest or a need, e-mail me at lensmith57@yahoo.com and I can give you more information.

By the way, I've been working with Corian and similar materials for about 15 years. If anyone has any questions on working with the materials, don't hesitate to ask! I'm sure there are many of you who have long experience with these materials as well, and I am not presuming to think otherwise. I'm just a newbie here, and would like to offer any help I can.

We just bought a cutting board out of corian, I think the guy made it out of scraps as you mention and added 4 rubber stick-on feet and routed a drip grove around the edges. Maybe an idea for your scraps?

Thanks for the input Jeff. we actually do sell pallets of material to a person who makes cutting boards out of them.
I was reading a couple of posts by a sign maker who was trying to buy Corian, but the distributor was giving him grief about getting certified. He was getting frustrated trying to buy material to make his signs. Since we buy in volume, we get very good pricing, and I was just thinking that most of our scrap is probably large enough for some signage, and it would be far more economical to buy just what you need rather than an entire sheet, without having to beg a distributor to sell you something. Time will tell if my thinking is correct or not.
Thanks again for the post, I really like the posts on this site!

Len, do you have any Avonite?
I am maintaining a building with black avonite signage that dates back before I got involved. I had one sheet of material, but it is almost gone. Now the building is mostly done & my reorders include a lot of wiping off old tenant names & silk screening new copy on existing plaques, but I do still get prders for new plaques as well. I am soon to run out & the need for new plaques is not sunstantial enough to want to ever get a full sheet again. Shipping costs are also always a concern since I live in Hawaii. My black avonite has small white flecks in it.
Let me know if you think you have something that might match & I can scan a plaque to show you.

Doug,
Yes we do use Avonite too, is there any chance you could find out what the name of the color is? Could be Belgian Black by the description, but it could also be Black Lava too. What size do you need?
Hope we can help,
Len

Len,
I was the frustrated signmaker you read about.I did finally get corian certified but it was a long process. It has been very expensive buying a full sheet to use 2 square feet.I will keep you in mind for later projects. In fact i might be in the market for white and red scraps.I realize the number of whites from corian but the customer has not selected one yet.I am still a newbie with corian and dont think i have touched the possibilities for the sign industry.
does corian care that you sell the scraps?they seem to have more rules than i can keep up with to "protect" there product.I was told that sink cut outs are now required to be returned to the buyer for color match it there is need for a repair.

I don't think I will be able to trace that name from the original purchase from over 10 years ago prior to my arrival on Maui... maybe, but I doubt it. I can scan a nicly polished plaque to give you a good look though.
I make a lot of plaques aroung 2" x 14", some 2" x 18" & the occassional oddball sizes like 6 x 6 or the recent order that used up a good deal of my remaining stock was three 18 x 24's and 40 3" letters cut on a router.

Brian,
Solid Surface manufacturers doesn't really care that we sell our off-fall, in the end what they care about is selling product. There is a requirement to leave a small piece for seaming in case of warranty claims in the future, but even after this we end up with significant amounts of off-fall. We have large amounts of Glacier White if that ends up being attractive to your customers.
Doug, e-mail me your address and I will send you a sample of Black Lava to see if it's what you may need. You can e-mail me at lensmith57@Yahoo.com
Nice to hear from you guys!

Thanks Len,
I'll email you & I would like to see a small sample of the white too please. This same building uses white for suite numbers & bl;ack for tenant names. They don't need the white much, but have subdivided & created some new suites now.
Here's one of the black signs, scanner glass is a little splotchy though  (

We have been getting some e-mails regarding the Corian off-fall, so we've set up a site where folks can check on-line what we have available. We've just started to populate it, so much more will be coming. The site is http://www.renaissance.us.com, for anyone who might be interested.
