How's everyone down south doing? I'm in Huntsville (close to TN state line) and it's windy & rainy and going to get worse. Tornado warnings are getting pretty close.

Old Paint is in Pensacola. Eek! Fred - did this one get you, too?

My family has a beach house down in Gulf Shores and it's probably gone. If anyone has ever been to the legendary, historic FloraBama bar, they said today that it's completely gone.

Stay safe everyone!

I'm okay Sign Chick .... I all the way down in the West Palm Beach area. It wouldn't surprise me though to hear that OP has washed up on your doorstep. He's in Penscola and was planning to ride it out. I haven't heard anything from him as of yet.

Just picked up these posts from OP at Letterville:
7:30 am. been up all nite listening to a freight train come and go, all the time knowing something is getting destroyed....and iam helpless. all you adreniline junkies.....you want to try doin a cat 4 hurricane in the dark.....a feelin nothin in the world you will experiance anywhere else!!!!! trust me on this....and iam no adreniline junkie.
its daylight now and the 2 acres of woods we had...is somewhere else in the county. we got 100 yr old 70 ft tall pine trees with the root ball...IN THE AIR...my dodge van is somewhere under the pecan tree and a 70 ft pine tree that are layin right next to my mobile van. it didnt get hurt but if i woulda parked 5 more feet away from the house it would be under that pine tree.
it has a branch layin on the mobile truck, but didnt seem to do any damage. this place looks like a clear cut foresty operation....trees layin evey which way. i cant get out the drive way its 200 feet of trees....the house took no damage, a few shingles in the yard but they might be someone elses......well its just a breezy day comin on now....small gusts, no more rain. no water layin round, musta all run off.
no electric no cable no water. we got a gas stove and this generator so we will mangage.my partial building suffered no damage....in fact i think the wind made it more STRAIGHT...HAHAHAHAHAH
i seen all i want to see....iam gona get some sleep now that iam no longer afraid to close my eyes!!!

3:00 P.M. i finally got some sleep. cant sleep when your scared. i got the drive way open, one of my clients/freind came by for a SIGN!!!! he helped me get the driveway open and the downed power lines moved so we can get in a out.
DEBRIS/TREE CLEANUP FOR HIRE. 000-0000, 4x 8 red vinyl on yellow coro!!!!! i imagine ill be doin plenty of these.
carport is cleaned, got some pictures you wont belive. but i got do the sign, we are ok, and thank you for all your prayers and good thoughts, this is when you know who really cares about you.....in times of distress. gota go do things i need while its daylight, nites will be long.....and dark.

Just got off the phone with OP while Fred was probably posting his quotes from Letterville. He seems to be in high spirits and possibly still on that adrenaline rush! Great to hear from you OP!

Glad I postponed moving to Pensacola last month!

And glad you're ok, OP!

I'm expecting to lose power here at some point tonight. Just rain & wind and flooding but the center of it is almost here. It'll be fine come the morning.

Glad that you are okay OP! Can't say as much for the dooryard. Just for polling purposes...I will take snow over hurricanes, tornados and heat any day! I just hope it doesn't come until the end of February and ends in the beginning of March Big Laugh

The last time I dealt with snow was when I lived in Maryland. It was a detached home with a double driveway on a slope of about 15 to 20 degrees.

On three successive Friday nights we got a foot or more of snow with no thaw the whole time. My kids were too young to be of any help and no neighborhood kids cared to turn shoveling snow into a business opportunity, so I was left to shovel out myself.

The first Friday left me with a clear driveway and mounds beside it about two feet high.

The second Friday night left me with a clear driveway and mounds that were taller than I am and a pounding in my chest that left me feeling that at the tender age of 39 I might be leaving this earthly veil of tears.

The third Friday night, I said to the Mrs. that I wanted to move to Florida.

In addition, while I consider myself a decent driver in the snow, I am terrified by the mix of drivers that are good but drive too fast and the ones who don't have a clue and drive too slow.

Do you understand now Baz?

The only thing i understand Fred is that you could have used a snowblower

havent heard that word in a long time.."dooryard." i lived in the county for 8 years and the funnest word i rememeber was "mooseyard", now ive never hada good explanation for that term.
i seen -75 and stay there for month, snow up the the telephone wires, had to take a starter in the house and use a hair dryer to get my hand unstuck from it, seen the ice grow in side the house on the outside wall switchplate screws, have had the oil furnace never stop running and couldnt get the temp above 60 in the house.....that had 6 inch wall insulation roof and floor, triple storm windows and was only 4 rooms!!!!! plug in my car, and see 5w-30w motor oil not pour from the can!!!! thats cold. ive picked off a piece of my ear, thinkin it was a chunk of ice....it was MY FLESH...frozen. didnt bleed untill i was in the ski hut. and this kinda stuff goes on from oct till april.........up there.
now i admit being afraid, scared and never want to do that again...but if you look at it from the view of what you endur for weather in those month i mentioned.....i only had really bad weather less the 24 hours outa 365 days of great beautiful gentle breezes and warm days that most of the time iam in a tank top, shorts and sandles........now i dont have the money to retire to fl.......but i damn sure am livin the good live, even with one day of pure hell!!!!!

Hey, OP, I read you loud and clear. How about 8' in a weekend, and go to bed on X-Mas eve at 10 above, only to get up the next morning and see 35 below on the old thermometer? Snow blower, my foot, it was snow shoe city in Watertown, N.Y. winter of 62-63. Glad you made it through. Keep the faith. nodrenim

Last winter it was three weeks straight of -54. The first snowfall was September 22 . . . I sprayed the snow with paint to see when I would see it again, if ever . . . May 3 was the reveal date! At the highest, snowbanks were 5'8" high. The only benefit was only having to make one snow fort for my six year old . . . and shoveling it out numerous times.

The warmest day this summer was 85 . . . twice. The average was 77ish.

On July 11 I hit a Moose on Rt. 11 . . . a baby, but it totaled my shop truck. The mother stuck around and accosted the truck until a Peterbilt came in the other direction.

Lastly, I don't care how much manure you can fit on a field . . . it ain't ever gonna smell as bad as rotting potatos in the spring!

As for hurricanes, I'll leave for a couple of days. Tornadoes . . . we got 'em up here too.

There ain't nothing like a Pina Colada at sunset while the Gulf Breezes awaken the senses. Make room ol' boy, Pensacola still sounds better than Presque Isle! :unclesam:
