I got a call this morning for those stripes on a Mustang, rally stripes or whatever they are called, running from hood to trunk.
I am completely not interested in this type of work...but...
are there any local sign folks to whom I can refer these calls?
I just like to be able to have someone to recommend should the need arise.
Thanks!
Jill
PS

Well I'm only about 2.5 hrs. from you but that is still a long way for stripes. I think you might as well just go ahead and do it, just put a high price on it and start applying.

I can do it, contact me when you need too. I have posted photos of the one that I just did about a month ago.

I did a mustang last week with a kit I bought. Spent about four hours putting it on and fought it all the way. the customer hated it and the shop peeled it. I lost the price of the kit and all the labor. It will be a long time before I do another kit.

For some reason I never have any luck installing vinyl dry so I always use a wet mehod. The kit was extremely difficult because of the plastic transfer sheet that wanted to pull the vinyl even after it sat for 15 minutes. I ended up with a wrinkle and assorted small bubbles and then some scratches from trying to hard to remove them. Working around the bumpers was a pain. although I've been in business 33 years ten of them cutting vinyl and making signs I could use some tips! maybe thats why i'm here. LOL. When I start losing money on jobs it time to take at the business plan.

my friend owns a tint shop and we do these all th time charge the dealership 450. and customers 400. but I just cut out 6-7" stripes by 6' that gives us just enought to do the bumpers also. and yes install wet alot easier ohhh yea i dont use any transfer tape either

The key is to cut the stripes as unique said. The bumpers and deck lid is where the fun begins!

I usually make a piece in the stripe under the spoiler ( right near the back edge ), Then I make another piece on the bumpers. If you don't there is no way to keep the vinyl completely lined up.

When making pieces, I use a straight cut and I decide which piece overlaps the other by determining which way would not show the cut edge!

Patience. This is the most important step!

just do them dry and tape down the stripe with masking tape in place and sort of hinge it. no worries or print it using 3551 and lam and bubble free baby.

Keep those stripes to white based cars, any other colors and once you remove that stripe there will be a nice set of darker stripes left behind. The sun will bake that vinyl! Also if you have any kind of graphics printed on the stripes they'll be faded in just a few years.

I hope you have learned by now that clear(plastic) transfer tape cannot be used with a wet application.
Jill, how did this work(or not) for you?
Cheers!
