Now it looks like Jeanne is going to make a bigger mess than Frances.

Good luck Fred. I hope you don't get hit. At least you have a bit of time to batten down the hatches. Hurricanes are things we don't get down under too often. :Australia :Australia

Fred I watched the weather last night and thought that it looked like Jeanne may be heading right for you hope you people don't get hit again.
Good Luck!

Everywhere we look we see signs that people are much more aware this time around than they were with Frances.

We already have long lines at all the gas stations and grocery shelves are getting emptied.

When hurricane season ends, you might want to think about building yourselves one of these babies (http://www.csmonitor.com/2004/0922/p14s01-lihc.html).

I saw a report on CNN about that guy. Pretty cool house.

Good luck Fred and everybody down there!

Know how it is. We got hit last year this time with a doozie of a hurricane.
Can't imagine the multiple hits that Florida took. I guess it's the price we pay
for living on peninsulas which jut into the Atlantic Ocean. I bought a friggin' Honda
generator after that hurricane but haven't used it since. Oh well, some day it might
come in handy.

So, when you call to put in a claim for hurricanes in Florida, does the phone menu say "push 1 for Charlie, 2 for Frances, 3 for Ivan and 4 for Charlie"?

It has been about 130 years since four hurricanes made landfall in the same state in the same year. At least people are taking them seriously now.

For my part, I'll continue to prefer life in the sub-tropics over any other choices.

Fred, good luck with Jeanne, weather channel shows it strenghtening and heading due west...hopefully it'll make its scheduled turn up north but looks like you'll still get rain and wind...

Give me a blizzard with 2 feet of snow and sub-zero temps for days at a time instead of hurricanes

We've got the house about 90% battened down and are headed for the office. Right now it looks like we will be seeing 75 to 100 mph winds where we're located.

If I lose touch for a while, I am leaving everyone here in charge .... so have fun.

That’s a good one jimdes! :Big Laugh

Best of luck to you Fred and the others that will be in the path or otherwise effected by Jeanne.

http://inknowvativegroup.com/emoticons/freaked.gif Been there, done that, have the T-shirt from Francis. Combine that with flooding last week/weekend as a result of Ivan and a hit by freak tornado a few weeks before that and I’ve had my fill of natural disasters.

Really want to take a vacation with the wife before the years out, and we talked about somewhere in California, but with my track record I’m afraid we would end up in the bring drink while there.

Well we lost power at 10:20 last night just as Jeanne came ashore which was about 40 miles to the north of us. It was a howling wind and rain, dark, dark night but our area (central Palm Beach County) appears to have been spared any serious damage. My phone and DSL even work (here at home) although electric is coming from our home generator.

It has been a comparatively quick storm for which we're all grateful.
