I have a client that just stopped by tonight with his brand new International. He is requesting that I apply lettering to the chrome gas tanks on either side of this machine. This may sound stupid, but I've never had anyone request this before, and I've subsequently never applied vinyl to chrome before. What kind of problems can I expect from this application, if any?

My initial thought is "no problem", but I want to make sure I give this guy a solid job that will last, as he just spent a fortune on this rig and is leaving it all up to me. Anything special need to be done for this application? Am I over thinking this?

Thanks all,
Gene

The potential for fuel spillage would be my biggest concern.
IN the remote controlled airplane world there is some kind of brush-on/ spray overlaminate that they use to prevent fuel from lifting decals. Forget exactly what it is called. I'd check into that.
Cheers!

No problems at all as long as they are clean of course. We do alot of lettering on chrome or polished aluminum tanks, tool boxes, flat bed rail sides etc. Never a problem. You'll want to play with color combos though. We always use outlines to enhance the visibility. Chrome and polished aluminum tend to swallow up a single color letter without an outline.

We have wrapped fuel tanks in the past. I am amazed on how good it holds up. If you use a good quality cast vinyl, I wouldn't worry about the fuel. Hope that helps.
