I just reciently tried to order one and waited a week before I found out that it was backorderd. An I had to call California and ask where it was to find that out. so I made my own.

Yea, but who did you order it from?

I have never made one , but was reading in one of the sign mags how to do it...As far as I remember it's just a frame on each end of the sign with wires running back and forth. When you blast through the wires it creates the effect to look like grain....

The order was placed through a local sign supply company who is a distributor for Sign Arts Products Corp. who produces them. It was sign arts that finally admitted that they were back orderd. I called about five vendors and only one was still even offering the frames, even though I get sign foam from them all the time. The fellow at sign arts told me that they are always running out because they are so populer. I kind of think that they are hurting a bit.

A friend of mine took a screen printing frame and drove in screws about every 1/4", then used some wire about the thickness of a guitar string (largest one)
and ran it back and forth horizontally from screw to screw. He used that thing for years, probably still does. worked great! If I remember he wrapped duct tape around the wooden frame before he put in the screws to protect the wood from being blasted if the sand got too close.

What do you have more of, time or money? You can save money and build your own. Or, you can buy one and continue making money.
I've seen directions posted on several web sites. So it's time to hit up google :)

bah, 1/2 steel angle ( bolted mine, welding would be better) cable, I varied the sizes.....drill holes either end again I varied the distance between holes, run it through. Short sheet metal screws to hold 'em
I also varied the tension.... and twisted some of the cables...so the "grain" isn't so straight. I get excellent results.

Been using it atleast 7 years...
Home Depot has it all...

Thanks much! I googled and found very little. Mostly sandblast supply companies. Many had never heard of a grain frame.

Appreciate all the suggestions.

So... I googled Sign Arts Products Corp. Got to their site found the Grain *FRAIM* saw that it was carried by one of my local suppliers and called them. Out of stock but it was $575!!! Looks like we're going to make one!

Thanks all!
