View Full Version : Media Counters
Anyone ever hook up a media counter to your printer to keep track of your media usages as it comes off the roll ?

Some of the newer printers have this feature built right in. The first time I saw it was on the HP 5000 or 5500. I think it would actually print a bar code about the media and the amount left on the roll after the job was done.

I honestly don't know. Perhaps someone else who has the printer can chime in.
The newer Encads (700 series and up) also had this feature, but you had to manually enter in the amount left on the roll when you started printing. When you were done printing, you also had to manually print the amount again.
Sort of off topic, when I was printing at my last job, the Onyx RIP software I used had a job summary which would let you know how much media and ink you use for the job. perhaps that may be another option for you? If worse comes to worse, you can just write the amount on the roll :)
