I know this is a TOTAL "newbie" question. But since I don't make typical signs (I do more "decor" type stuff - www.morethanwordsdesign.com (http://www.morethanwordsdesign.com) ) I'm not sure what to use.
My cousin is the VP of a large home building company. He asked me to bid out 500 20X20 coroplast signs with their logo and an arrow. Since it is simple I would love to get the job. I only use Oracal 631 for what I do and wondered what is the "norm" for vinyl used on these type of signs.
Thanks!!

glad you asked ... since the amount is 500 you would be better off... screen printing these, instead of all that weeding and applying vinyl plus cost ....

Kerri, You definitely want to sreen print those, you'd be money ahead, but for the future that vinyl would be fine. Rule of thumbs is don't use long term HP vinyl on a substrate that's only going to last a few years.

Check with our merchant member I-45. Does wholesale screen printing.
A coro sign only requires cheap vinyl.

I don't think he's "messin" with me; I just think he is trying to be nice and give me business. Since I don't screen print that doesn't help me.

I just did a 400 piece vinyl order for a church camp craft project and it didn't kill me. So, if he wants to truly go with the vinyl route for these it won't kill me either.

I'd forgoe a weekend of golf to bang them out.
I love the 50-100 coroplast sign jobs. I escape into
my own world. I apply the vinyl wet and eyeball it.

I guess if someone wants to pay for 500 vinyl lettered coro they can, but considering the cost difference I can't believe anyone would.
Tell 'em you're gonna use vinyl ink on a plastic substrate and pocket the profit.
I can understand wanting to give him 500 pieces furnished in vinyl because that's what he requested, but you could suggest to him, you'll save him money by doing it the correct way and proceed from there.
I wouldn't do this, but if it makes him happy.... quote him doing it with die-cut vinyl and then screen them. Using the vinyl ink... you're technically not lying.

The simple thing to do is give him two quotes. One for vinyl that should be a hell of a lot higher and one for screen printed. If he still insist on vinyl seeing that it will cost more then give him vinyl. But considering the type of sign it is, he should see the logic in saving a few bucks on something that will not be around in a years time anyway.

If you cut vinyl use at least a good grade intermediate such as 651, Shinerite from Fellers, or Briteline from Grimco. If you want them to last then use a premium, but screen printing one color is the way to go for cost and durability.
