I have a friend who is not using her ping pong table, and I am wondering if anyone has used one as a work table?
I thought it might be nice as it folds away and has wheels, but is it so much better than a 4 x 8 with a couple of sawhorses?
Cheers and let me know,
P
Yeah, I guess. I have found that a sign bench needs to be FLAT. Many people use 1/4 inch glass on top.
I often use a 6 foot drapery channel as a straight-edge when cutting. ( I also have a 10 footer- they are very straight. )
If there is warpage in the table-top it creates difficulty when making these cuts. The seam may cause a problem..but in a pinch I bet it will serve you well.
Cheers!

A ping pong table is too low. You'll find your back getting stiff from bending over.

I bought a ping-pong table as a "workbench", but I really don't intend to use it that way :)
As Imasignr pointed out, it probably will be way too low unless your 5' tall. If I remember correctly, egronomically correct table height for production should be a couple inches below your arm when you bend it at the elbow.

I have two six foot plastic tables on top of those plastic storage boxes. The exra height is a must.

I use a regulation pool table. It gets more use as a work table than pool playing...

What I've got now...
Two "Metro" type wire racks, on wheels, with a 4x8 sheet of MDF on top (heavy...).
What I'm gonna do after I get through with figuring out a few things...
Going to get 6 12" wide kitchen counter cabinets from a liquidation place down the street. They've also got some 30" wide drawer units.
They're 24" deep.
Going to mount them on a sheet of plywood with some 2x3 reinforcement, and bolt four to six heavy duty casters underneath.
Each 8' side will have a 12", a 30", a 12", some space, and a 12".
Don't ya think they'd call it a work bench if it really could be used as one in instead of a ping pong table.
I don't think it will support any weight on it. Those ping pong balls and paddles don't do much in the way of damage like weeding a roll of vinyl or squeegeeing down vinyl on some Cor-X. Just a thought.

I suppose if business is slow you can leave one side up and play with yourself like Forest Gump

If you've got the space and you happen to have a ping pong table, I spose you could use it for stuff, but it's not ideal. I have a ping pong table also in my shop. It was a gift, but I rarely get it out. I'd rather have the space for something else.

I use my poker table top for now(it has a hard surface)
But thats only until the business will pick up and I can get out of my basement(or the basement gets finished) So sure use what u can til you can afford whatever the norm protocol is. Shucks I heard people here using a floor to make their signs!

This one I think is nice...it has square steel tubing around the outside of the 2 panels as well as heavy duty legs that fold up and roll.
Just wondering...thanks for the info. The height thing would be a problem.

That's how my newest table is set up, at the hight of a few inches below my elbow, it bother my back more that when I work off a table that's waist level.
Not sure why, I think I tend to lean on my elbows when the table is lower!?

I use a ping pong table with 4' x 8' glass on it. It's too low and I have to weed sitting in a chair. It works for now, but I need to upgrade!

We all have to start somewhere.
If it works for you use it. Seems a bit week and flimsy to me.
