I know it's gotta be me. I'm trying to use Corel Draw X3 to create vertical text. The help files point me to tools that aren't in the X3 drop downs. There's got to be a way to create vertical text without paths (at least I think so). Any corel draw people out there that can help.

thanks,

I don't know of a way, so I just type each letter, ENTER, letter, ENTER, etc.

draw a verticle line
Type text to it using text to path. The menu bar will pop up the text to path options
On the far left is a menu to select text to path options
select the bottom option
set your kerning to the needs of the text.

You have to fit the text to a path.

Create your text and create a vertical line long enough to contain your text. Select the text and then do Text->Fit Text To Path. Select the path. In the first drop down on the Text To Path tool bar that appears the first selection will turn it sideways, the last selection will stack it. Not a big deal.

it's that simple.
Make sure to break apart text and center each character vertically.

One more way do it:

Type your text
Shift select the line of text
Open the "Character Formatting" pop up window or tool docker.
In the "Character Shift" section change the angle to 90deg.
You can now edit or change the text without having to deal with paths or returns after each character.
