I printed out a 3 x 2 foot sign yesterday..and all was good.
I'm noticing today that there is a seam right in the middle of my print where Oracal "continued" the roll. There is a small noticable white line, you have to look pretty close to see it. Will it expand in time?
How would you hinge apply this to the substrate if you decided not to re-print?
TIA.
Ken
Actually, I just thought of a workaround. I could print a tile of the center portion of the sign and overlay on top of the seam..
Oh well thanks.
Any other ideas? LOL
Cheers!

That's a pissa, lol! Even though they give ya more on the roll - it's not worth the trouble! It's happened to me in the past but not anymore......I now request that they check the roll to make sure it doesn't happen to me anymore!

If it's an oracal roll, give them a call. I remember they had an "offer" that if you find a splice in any of their rolls they'll give you $500 dollars. Not sure if it applied to digital media or not.

Don't they usually mark the seam? I know other mfg's do so that you don't go to far

I am not sure how that would work as giant dist. companies such as Fellers cuts all their rolls to create different sizing etc. Plus they sell it by the yard so I am sure thats how they get the smaller rolls such as 10yds, etc.

I received a spliced roll from fellers once for a Oracal 751 roll. I ordered three rolls of this green and they asked if it could all be on one roll. However, when I called Fellers on it they said they have no idea why there was a splice that a replacement would be on its way...

Oracal did advertise that. What would Fellers cutting vinyl have to do with splices? They aren't splicing together pieces to make a 50 yard box.

What would Fellers cutting vinyl have to do with splices?

Because I ordered 10yd rolls of 751. They asked if it could be one 30yd roll instead of three separate rolls. The 30yd roll came with a splice Pat...

Yea, I'm sure they wouldn't honor that, I assumed it was a full roll, since it's digital media, do people sell digital media by the yard?

I'd be hesistant of major contamination.

No, and contamination is why.

Yes Oracal did make that claim in their advertising for a short period of time. At that time I was using tons of 651 on large banner orders. I would order between 30-40 rolls of 651 at a time and guess who came across a splice in one of the rolls, figured hey, what the heck, they made the claim so I called them, they asked me to send them the remainder of the roll with the splice for verification which I did, they in return sent me a fresh full new roll and a check for $500.00 , Never saw that ad ever again.

Ya, well I've been thru about 8 rolls of 3651 and this is the first seam-in-the roll that I've seen..and the roll is close to the end. I've figured out a reasonable work-around so I'm not looking for $500. A little peeved , is all.
Cheers!

I'd give them a call, as I've seen ads guaranteeing never to splice their media.
TVG: Why the hell would Fellers offer to put rolls together for you?? That just makes more work for them!

Many suppliers sell vinyl by the yard, the 10 yards, and the full 50. TVG is saying that he ordered 3x10 yards. It wouldn't make sense to order three rolls of the same vinyl. He suggested that they cut 20 yards off of a 50 yard roll so that he could have 30 yards on one roll. ( I do this all the time). There happened to be a FACTORY seam in the vinyl, and the supplier replaced the roll for no charge.:help:

Well, I did as I mentioned above..I printed a small section to cover the seam and it is invisible from about 4 feet away. There is a grey adhesive on the back, so I held the knife at an angle so the edge of the cut would not show.
Good to go!
Cheers!
