The franchise I belong to allows the owners to post questions, information, etc. on the internet as a means to exchange news. In the past few weeks, I've noticed that many of the stores in the eastern part of the country have been experiencing serious vinyl shrinkage problems with their Avery A8 vinyl. The stores that have reported this problem are from Florida to Maine and from Kentucky area. My store is in the state of Washington and we have not had any problems with Avery vinyl (yet). Avery has been contacted by the owners of the above stores and Avery have acknowledged that they are aware of the problem. Those of you in the eastern coast should be on the alert for similar problems.
Thanks for sharing that info. The A8 I have ordered recently hasn't appeared like the normal cast A8. The adhesive hasn't been as aggresive as I'm accustomed. I had to reletter a sign that had a8 on the face recently. Two colors forest green and black, weren't affected, but the matte black A8 curled up and was coming off under the imit. gold overlay, sign had been outdoors since spring. Certainly not close to 8 years there.

We too have had problems with A-8. Avery has pulled product from some, but not all distributors in a certain mfg. range. They are hit-miss on this. In the meantime, we are filing claims, not getting any response, removing inferior product and possibly replacing with more of the same. I'm not a fan of Oracal, or Mac-Tac. 3-M color gloss is too low. Any other suggestions? All we use is A-8, hoping for the best life on vehicle graphics, but getting the short end of the sticky. Yes, that was a small joke......

Hey Zipper.......hi from a fellow Washingtonian! I pretty much stay away from Avery. I have had letters fall off signs. The adhesive doesn't seem to want to stick well.

Being that I do a lot of race car work, I mainly use intermediate vinyl anyway. I use Oracal and GMI now mainly, just seems to work better for me.

I typically use 3M for intermediate (7025) and some HiPerf apps (7125 & 7725), but use mostly Arlon Calon EF for HiPerf apps.
I've also used Avery A6, A7 & A8; Oracal 651 & 751 as well as Summa house brand (not too impressed with that).

This is my first message so I hope it works. Almost all a8 vinyl that Avery made last year is suspect to be defective and if you complian they will refund or replace the product. I know of several sign companies that have been given compensation for labor replacing defective vinyl. If you don't complain and have them inspect your inventory you could be still using substandard vinyl.

Here's a pdf of their warranty: http://www.averygraphics.com/pls/avery/avery_ext_util.display?p_name=General_warranty.pdf
Looks like the most they will reimburse you is material cost in any event, and that's only if they feel replacing the material wouldn't be worthwhile.

We have had problems with one of our installations since last July of 2004. We are still waiting for a reimbursement after numerous complaints through our distributor and Avery. You can see the destruction the Avery has left behind.

I have said from the beginning of this that it is not a warranty issue. It is a product liability issue.

My best friend is in the business and was hit hard by all this. He ended up giving up his weekends and nights for more than 2 months solid redoing vehicles. It took a lot of complaining and calling back but he finally got compensated for his time as well as materials.

Distributor told me that it is all avery products except for the A4.
The Avery Ez is really bad, we had a wrap go horribly wrong when we used this stuff last week. We will never use avery again.
