how about some tomato stakes and a router?
Maybe you could ask the "city" where to get them.

I dont know what the holes in the middle would be used for, but we just use regular survey stakes from home depot. They're cheap--like $20 for 50 I think.

Its for the screws. I think it'll work. I can probabley build one. A hand held saw would do it. I'll go check those survey stakes from home depot too. Thanks

Table saw or router could do it....They're so different height signs can be attached with a nut and bolt to be adjustable.....Crazy when all they have to do is screw a self tapping screw into a solid stake......make more work for someone...

Heck, we don't even bother with screws.. just staple gun 'em in place!
Sounds like someone over-engineered a coro sign!

you dont need a friggin router table,, all you need is a dual saw blade in yer circular saw..
OR ya can get a daddo blade and it wobbles teh blade a certain amount to make wider cuts..

We sell about 5000 of those a year (we print a lot of real estate signs) and use nylon hardware to attach the signs. Nylon hardware looks a lot nicer than staples, doesn't require the customer to own a staple gun, and makes the signs easier to transport when the signs and stakes are separate.
There are three ways to make those. The one you show has routed slots, a drilled hole, and a cut point. If you've got the equipment it's not too tough to do. Use hardwood, not cheap white pine. Pine is going to split when you try to pound it in the ground.
You can also do like people have mentioned and set up a double blade on your table saw and just cut the two slots, then drill, then cut the point. That will leave angled points inside the slots which aren't the nicest looking things. Some people care about that, some don't.
The other way I've seen them done is gluing up a sandwich about 4' x 4' with two solid layers on the outside and strips in the middle leaving the slots open. The whole thing is then just cut into individual stakes on a panel saw.
But, by far the best way to do these is just to buy them. The company we buy from locally has jigs set up to rout them from hardwood and can make more in minutes than I could make in days. Shipping is going to be a pain for you if you want to use my supplier, you're much better off with somebody local.
Asking the city where to get them is the best idea so far.

Two blades in a hand held saw is a very bad idea. Dado blades in a table saw are great for dados....plunging a small piece of wood like the stakes shown into a dado blade is VERY dangerous. Especially if you don't know what you are doing. (if you have to ask how to slot a piece of wood, you don't know what you are doing)
I have nine fingers left...take my advice...don't do it yourself. Way cheaper to buy them from someone with the proper setup and training.
If you have to do it yourself....do the glue up idea from Pats post.

I had to make some once. I used a table saw with dado blades to make the slots. I bought survey stakes at a local lumber supply. Make sure you paint them with a sprayer, saves lots of time.
We have supplier but i don't think they ship. I have had the hardest time trying to find these stakes from other places. It's even a pain to get these from this supplier which is about 50 miles away.
You would think that as many of these stakes are used, they would be in good supply.

There is a company in Montgomery Alabama who manufactures these in pine and in HARDWOOD. Lengths from 24" to 72" are available. The finish is a bright smooth white. They also have the nylon bolts and nuts. Prices are VERY REASONABLE. If you want the contact number, shoot me an email.

For Grins.....who would pound down a 72" stake anyway???
