The assignment is to design and quote installed vehicle graphics on both sides and the rear of the cube van pictures attached.

For those who like to work at full scale, the sides of the van measure 149" horizontally between the aluminum vertical edges. The rear measures 67.5" horizontally from frame to frame. The sides of the van are made of fiberglass and are rivet free except as shown. The rear door is painted wood and has rivets.

The customer is a psychiatrist who is starting a new business he hopes to franchise. His budget is fairly liberal since this will be the prototype and he wants it to look good and attract business. He has stated that he has no preferences as to design, colors etc. and would like to have a catchy slogan and, perhaps a logo or graphic. In general he is relying on your professional expertise and you have complete freedom to design the concept as you see fit.

The doctor's name is Seymour Dreems. He has a medical degree in psychiatry and has authored a best selling book titled Achieving Success, Finding Inner Tranquility and Losing Weight Through Constructive Dream Creation. The name of the business is Dreem Time Mobile Psychiatry.

The scope of the business to be franchised is mobile psychoanalysis and psychotherapy. Dr. Dreems has offered slogan suggestions like:

Have Couch - Will Travel and Psychiatric Help - We Come to You

as possibilities, but is quite open to new ideas.

Designs are to be posted back to this thread no later than Wednesday December 15th, 2004 along with the price for which you would actually do the job. All designs must be produceable. Beginning Thursday, December 16th a poll will be posted and all registered members may vote for their favorite design. Voting will close at midnight Eastern Standard Time on Thursday, December 30th, 2004.

The winning design will receive their choice of:

Plotter Art™ Originals (Vinyl-ready black and white clipart)
Plotter Art™ Print and Cut Color Collection (Subject to official release sometime in the first quarter of 2005)

In case of a tie, the lowest bidder wins.

I would quote this job for about $700.00 and would offer to discount that $50 for letting me install a 6" x 12" logo of our shop on each side. I used 5 different colors on this job...Vivid Blue, Black, Dk. Charcoal, Mustard Yellow, and Marine Gray(shadows).

From reading the info in the assignment, it's clear that Dr. Dreems, a best selling author is well known. Because of this, I used his face and book on the van as people will know who he is. I added a simple tag line just to let people know that he will come to you. I used the colors from his book jacket for the lettering. I had to use Avery to get these colors. I used A8 Olive Green, camel and orange. (boy, doesn't the good doctor look like my hero Captain Kirk!) I priced it out as gerber edge but would probably use scotchprint due to the size and number of seems. based on Gerber Edge graphics and vinyl letters the van would be $1,113.00 plus $208.00 to install

My price for this job would be 1035.00 using Oracal 651 (which 99% of the franchises around here use for everything) or 1250.00 using Arlon HP. My layout fee is 250.00...so 1500.00 plus tax.

Fred,
Those are some nice numbers on the views of this thread, how many unique viewers does that translate into? I see some huge potential for advertisers here :thumb:

Fred Weiss
12-18-2004, 01:17 PM
Not sure Jim. The forum software doesn't provide for a breakdown of unique views and that kind of a number would certainly indicate a high percentage of repeat viewers.

I can tell you that the site is currently seeing traffic in excess of 100 unique registered members a day. In addition there are considerably more "guests" which aren't measureable because they include search engine spiders in large numbers along with unregistered visitors.

You're right though about it being attractive to advertisers .... especially when compared to rates one gets in print advertising.

Stay tuned. We will be introducing banner advertising, along with the already in place Merchant Classifieds, in the near future.

Fantastic!
Your dedication and support to this forum deserves financial reward. Maintianing this site requires a lot of attention and you have done that very well. When the banners begin, I will support those businesses whenever possuble.

Thanks again Fred!

I want to appeal! I want to appeal! I feel people have accidentally voted for Jen when they were intending to vote for me!

There should have been more space between voting dots to prevent this from happening.

I mean, really, I only got 4 votes and Jen got 15 surely this was an accident.

Oh! Wait! Maybe my 4 votes were meant for Jen. mmmmmmm? ummmmm? mmmmmmm? uhhhhhhh. I guess I should be thankful for my 4 "accidental" votes.

Congrats Jen! Great Job!

And thank you Fred for providing us with the contest and the prizes. Hope to see you can do this again. It was a lot of fun.

I really liked Rick's 1st, 2nd, and 7th logos of those which he did NOT pursue. They were very crisp and creative, I thought.

I also liked nuke's van a lot...very clever and humorous...made it look like a contractor's truck...great!

I probably would have voted for the Tikiboyz design, though.

Not it is very relevant now, though.
