Spending a little time today experimenting with different effects created with my new filter package. These would be aimed at use in future print and cut vehicle graphics collections.

Tell me what ya think.

Cool, Everyone makes a nice comment on the Tomb Raider looking chick with the 45's & chains I put on my truck. Unfortunaetly the truck is parked in the driveway with a shot transmission

I like the metalic ones, but not the flames....it looks too much like a fill.

Could you chrome dome the flame pattern............?

That might be a nice effect............

Liquid Fire............

I tried it and thought it just ended up looking like a pattern. I'll tinker with it some more later and post the results. To me the problem with flames is confining them to within a vector when flames by their nature are not confined so rigidly.

I call this one "Global Warming". It has five different treatments to the flames. Tell me if any of them please your eye.

I like the last one the best, though I'm not 'super' crazy about it.

#4 if any, but as you suggest, they are all constrained by the vector edges..unnatural. Is the flame fill of your own making? I'm wondering if the fills from Digital Flames might be more realisitic?
Cheers!

Yes they are of my own making using the Filter Forge software.

I don't think it would be any better with Digital Flames although I would not use his because I will be selling licenses to the images. I had thought about using a photographic image but I think it will still come down to the fact that containment within a vector is the real problem.

I like #4 the best but it kinda has a wood feel to it.

A side note..

Certain porducts makes some really nice fire such as blender and 3d max, FumeFX plugins..
. Im not into this type of work. However a neighbor is and he makes some really nice captures that i printed for one of his displays..

If I were into this type of work I would most definatly look into this.. The fire is so realistic.

At my recent demo-derby, this guy had flames to die for..on a crash car!
I'll see if I can dig up the photo..

Would you recommend this filter forge as a purchase necessity? How do you like it?

fred, if you choose to do those metallic ones...print them on reflective, they come out freakin awesome, trust me =)

A necessity ... no. A neat product ... yes.

It has some pros and cons as compared to competitive products.

Pros - More powerful than similar apps. Community oriented website with a steady flow of new filters being made available everyday.

Cons - Moderate to steep learning curve with no significant tutorials available. Many of the filters available are of little or no commercial value.

I like it a lot.

Something doesn't look right with the flames inside a flame. Your metallics are awesome.

Yeah, those chrome effects look really good. I imagine you can tint them to fit any car coloring system, so it becomes color coordinated with the individual car/vehicle.

The flames just look a little too 2D to me. Just putting a bevel or an effect on something and then confining flames to a specific shape…. just doesn’t look like flames anymore. The flames should follow the actual shape of the contour portion as in the old days when you airbrushed them in to fit. Fire gets lighter as it reached the ends… which by your going across the grain tends to make it look more like wood grain at areas. Once you make the fire reach all the individual ends at the same rate…. I think you’ll have achieved your goal.

Getting there is now the challenge……….

the chrome looks great!!!!
I find if the whole shape is filled with fire, it does end up looking a little to much like just a pattern. Here is one of our designs, and how we went about using fire inside a shape.

Mos't pro's can design the flames, chrome look etc. I would personally like to see some 3-d modeling. I know you can do it.
