Hi! I'm new to this forums. I've read alot for the last 3months. I have a technical question about an install. My custumer want to put a Batman decal on the top reflector of his inter truck. My question is how do I get there? Even with a lader, I'm not able to reach the midle of this reflector. How do you guys install this? If you don't understand what I talk about, It's the part in the black circle of this picture.
Thanks for the help!

Two very large step ladders, one on either side of the cab with a plank extended between the ladders, over the cab.

Sit up on the roof, it wont crack unless your 300lbs....lol
Or use the 2 ladders and a plank

i do a ton of those we have few fleet accounts and i just climb up on the hood, usually you can reach from there
i have also stood on the roof you may have about 8"-12" to stand on test the area for sounds of cracking on for sturdy support wear sneakers not work boots
i have not fallen through or broke anything yet
and make sure you clean your foot prints off on your way down

Wow! Thanks for the fast reply. I've found I can climb on the motor block, but I don't know if I can reach that part. I'm litle scared do climb on the hood. Me and my 250lbs...

Stay off the hood if at all possible. There are 2 support cross members that run front to back of the cab. They are usually spaced so they divide the roof into 4 equal sections. If no room on the cab, there should be a small "ledge" in front of windshield you can stand on. Try to stay on the front edge where the bend is. It is the strongest point. Definately no work boots!
As SRex and others have said.... use the two step ladder and walk plank method. It's the most effective and least likely to do any unintentional damage.
What's cheaper, buying an extra ladder or paying to have the roof on that cab repaired ??

I'd tell him to take it off the truck! (I'm north of 300#...DOH!) No one wants me standing on the hood of anything!

Take a good look at photo of truck, pay close attention. This deflector is not removable as it is a interracial part of the vehicle!
Batman hmmm... do what he would do hang from a cable from the ceiling of your shop. :thumb:

Then he'll have to go to "skinny-sign guy" down the street. (or maybe I'll take the job and contract out to skinny guy!

I'm a fairly light dude and my No.1 application tech weighs less than me, so climbing on top of a cab in stocking feet works ok, however for bigger guys and if you must be on top of the cab, A 3'x5' (approx.) piece of 1/2'' mdo plywood with a piece of 3"-5" thick sponge rubber foam on one side is a handy portable cab-top deck to have on hand. Also a good way to recycle an old plywood sign.

What we do is put two extension ladders against the shop on either side of the door. Set the ladder jacks and walk board up high enough to clear the cab. Then nose the truck up to the door. Works great for doing sleepers on tractors and is very stable.

Although that would solve many problems on this forum, your bucket would have to be inside of the cab in order to be in a workable area for this project.

There is a very easy solution to this that requires absolutley no additional equipment besides your own two feet. I do almost all "Dome" applications by standing on the engine block. It is by far the sturdiest part of the truck and there is plenty of room for even the largest of us to stand on it.
Undo the hood latches on wiether side of the truck and it tils forward. They are usually wieght balanced so don't worry about it coming over on top of you.

if you have access to a company that works on lots of trucks most of them will have scaffolding, I have seen some nice large rolling scaffolds at trucking companies that will slide right over the hood.

I could hand with the drive through scaffold thing....
How do you get up on it? Us "men of stature" don't like hunkering over or climbing up on stuff. !!

I would be careful standing on hood or roof I've built Hoods & rebuilt many I've seen glass as thin as 1/16 Of inch thick& that wouldn't support much & one wrongly placed LB could crack it. scaffolding best choice. local truckwash might have location you could rent cheap
or most fleets around here have their own shop with scaffolding
OK..find a garage door. Park the nose of the truck inside the garage door. You have already attached some planking above the garage door.
