Yes, anything waterbased. If you want this really to last, put down a coat of latex primer, and then hardcoat it with Ure-shell from demand products or styrospray from industial polymers.

You can use a primer used called 360 and it's leaves a smooth surface to be able to paint with One SHot paint. Company is is Orange California they Mfg. the HDU

Seal it with wood glue 2 or 3 coats...You can try thinning it with a little water,Let it dry,then you can paint with anything. We did alot of 3d model making by coating with fiberglass resin then sanding and finishing

Acrylic latex works.....try cutting a vinyl stencil and spray it with Krylon. It will eat into the foam and give you a half a** "sandblast" effect. In your spare time of course.

Or use a heat gun to have control of the depth.

The fiberglass & resin method works good if you need it to last. I built an air cleaner cover that way once. If it's interior or short term, I've done it with Kilz primer then 1-shot.
