My friend asked me the other day about how much room that he needed for 6 color set up. He said he is buying a 5 ft. dryer also. I only do vinyl and don't have a clue. Any info that you can give will be awesome. He has done vinyl for years and was asking if would have to give up a full bay in his shop to do the screen printing. I am at a loss, don't have any idea. Thanks in advance.

A min. 200 sq.ft., but more room is allways better.

Can anyone help with a layout for his equipment. I know he will ask and he told me that he can get no help in Georgia where he is. thanks

we pretty much have our press next to the dryer, and print at the station closest to the dryer, this way once we print, the shirt can be put onto the belt....as far as layout...it all depends on if he'll be printing by himself, or if he'll have someone putting the tees on the platents....and how much room he actually has...

He will be doing all the printing. He is a one man show. As for how much room, he is willing to get as much room as he needs. He has an office and two bays that he does vinyl out of now.

I've seen set-ups in second bedrooms.

Typically, the problem I've seen is not so much finding room for the equipment as finding efficient room for the inventory: Inks, mix station, screens, garments (multiple orders in and out), powerwashers, sinks, drying rooms, squeegies, QC tables, fireproof cabinets, exposure units, power cords, flash units, garbage cans, cleaners, miscelaneous press attachements...

One printer I worked with was lamenting the space requirements of his shop saying that for him to work efficiently 25% of his space was devoted to shipping and receiving....

hmmmm, two bays sounds about right - LOL

Thanks so much for everyones help. The only other question I have is, is there anywhere I can send him to get the basics under his belt? Such as setting the shop, dark room, burning the screens, etc.
