Hey All,
I was recently beatin' to a pulp by a few people on my pricing habits, so I'm going to attempt to see what others would charge for some magnetics I just got a request for. It's a pizza delivery company, and they want 9 sets of magnetics for their delivery cars. (Why they don't have the little lights on top I have no idea) But anyway, they are all 12 X 24 pieces, and they want 9 of them to just be normal vinyl, and 9 of them to be reflective. These are black and red (not really the greatest reflective colors I don't think) and I'm wondering how to price them. My standard price on a set of 12 X 24's is $86.40. How much would any of you charge for the reflective part, and what's your charge even for the normal sizes? Any input (that's not insulting) would be appreciated. Thanks.

standard price on 12x24 (single color design) is $125 for the set of two....reflective, we mark up about 70%
Your price for 9 pieces is alright. Add about $35 or so on top for the added reflective for the other 9.

$35 per sign? Or for the total order?
Man you guys are killing me with these mag prices... In no way could we get these prices locally...

Really? What do you get on a set? I'm normally the lowest guy in the forum. Be careful, OP will get on you for not charging enough!
Actually about $17.50 per mag piece for the extra reflective.

Would you give a discount on the quantity if it was you?

another thing to keep in mind....do you have the reflective in stock...if not, make sure you cover your costs to get a roll in...
That is with a discount in mind.
A Pair of 12x24 vinyl mags through Fastsigns (locally) runs $65 a pair. So I have to match or some times even beat that price... Like I said in another thread there is another local (big) sign company that sells mags this size at $125/pr for basic stuff. I hear all the time how crazy this guy is by clients... IMO he is right on, and all other sign shops should get together and be as close to that as possible. (this will never happen locally) Otherwise everyone will just go to Fastsigns for the $65/pr deal or better yet go to Kinko's/Office max-Depot for the $45/pr of mags...

Yeah, I see what your sayin'. That's really cheap. We were the first company in this area, so when we started doin' magnetics many years ago, they ripped off our prices. That was the only thing though, all the other guys are stupid cheap on banners, and alumalite signs...and I'm already way too low.
Then you must step up to the plate and show these people what they can really get for $125.00 a pair.
Don't base your shop's needs on what someone else gets. If you were a chain of Pizza Parlors.... maybe, but not for custom made signs. Show the other guys up and get some really great mags out on cars that look worth the money. You won't grow if your prices remain too low.
Ask yourself this.... Do you want to make a living or do you just want to get by and exist ??

Yep, that's what I've learned. We should all follow that green commercial sign industry pricing book from signprice.com the best we can, and we'd all be fine.
