Try the Roland PNC 1000 or the 1000a driver, if it doesnt have its own driver, infact you may also try the refine drivers in there as well.

Does the machine cut a sample test cut, (a square within a square) this should be a simple button push button from the display on the cutter. the next thing to try is after we have assertained that the software is ok and the machine is ok is the connection, in between, is the cable ok, is it "known to be working".

Also what are you trying to cut? is it something you have created within signgo or is it a picture you have pulled in? I would initially try to cut your name or something, type it into the program (signgo) directly and try to cut it that way. its a while since I looked at signgo so I cant give you step by steps with it.

After you eliminate or run through some of these things please come back and give us some more info.

Good luck

by the way i just noticed a newbie section so i'll head on over there.

but yea, i have done several sample cuts, by hitting the test button. i've downloaded and registered, and licensed the software SigngoLite. the cutter is a cheap one, but im just putting my foot in the door and i thought it would be a good foundation to start on. i connected the pc to the cutter, set it up as com2, nothing. i tried com1, and nothing. so really its the machine that is not responded, the guy i bought it from did say it was working. i did try to cut something, but no response. i've looked around online to see if they're is a seperate driver for the cutter itself to make it work:rolleyes:

Ok so how is it connected to the computer, is it via a Com port or a parallel port (lpt1) com ports are "generally" small and are 9pin, Does it have a USB option? So if its USB to Serial that opens up a new can of worms. If you give us more info we will be able to help more.

And have you tried to cut something from directly in the signgo software.

and have you tried the roland pnc 1000 or 1000a driver?

all serial cables are not the same....pin assignments may be different with certain plotter makers...sumtin to think about.

It should work with windows generic hpgl driver....I think the desays are standard hpgl plotters.

there should be generic drivers, also in your software.. sorry not familiar with signgo....

friend of mine has one, it's loud but works fine.

Bought my friends Master Plotter and when I hooked it up to my 20ft. cable it wouldn't read so I ended up buying a 10ft. and it ran perfect.

Click "Never use an interrupt"
Make sure your LPT Port Number is "LPT1"
Click OK.
Try it out.

And have you tried to cut something from directly in the signgo software.

and have you tried the roland pnc 1000 or 1000a driver?

i have tried cutting directly from the software and i select which driver to use. and i've switched around com1, to com 2, and nothing, when click on "cut" so i can start cutting, the software freezes for like 20seconds, and then it shows a "!" sign with a yes and no, when i no it unfreezes, and when i press yes, it continues to freeze, its been the same story since i got it:rolleyes:. and i have tried with both rolands like you mentioned and its done the same way. i dont know, i think i got something connected the wrong way?? im only suppose to connect to the pc with either a serial port, or a parallel right?

check the baud rate. I think it should be 9600 and it may be set higher in the setup on the printer. If they are not the same on printer and program or port setting they dont see each other.

might need to make sure your line thickness is hairline & not thicker it makes difference with Corel & roland

I went through this when I bought one of those boat anchors a few years ago. Whoever I spoke with down their a desay spoke Broken english at best. It was really fustrating to me and I ended up buy a used graphtec for the same price and Have no issues. This is my own personal experiance and I just wanted to share. I truley hope he gets his plotter going but it will be a long road for a newbie to learn on inferior equipment and software.

when the program freezes, it does work again, immediately after i see the "!" sign with option of yes and no, when i click no, it says "cutting done".

i played with it more yesteday and no use, i've tried switching the cables from serial to parallel, and its the same story. there is something i must be missing..

He may have a better idea of what his program is doing than us. he will also hope fully know what the ! signifies.

I've got an xy 540p and it's worked well for me. The only problem I've had is that it doesn't work well with vista. Weird stuff happens. It got my business off to a very good start, and now I can afford a roland. I'm keeping it for a backup though.

Great news! So, in summary, you called tech support for a machine you bought second hand and they helped you get it working? For free?Sounds pretty good to me.
I set my "cheap piece of crap" (that works just fine, thank you) plotter at 600 speed and 80grams downforce for cast vinyl. For blast mask I use 400 speed and 350 grams with a 60 degree blade. It sounds like once you get your knife set properly you will be on your way.
I have had my media scratched by the blade before, so watch out for that. It was caused by me loading or unloading the media with the knife left "in the way". I now set the knife all the way to the side of the carriage when I load/unload media so it won't happen again.

ITs been posted many times that a standard serial cable will not work with most cutters.
