I have a request for a proposal from a customer. They are asking for reverse lit channel letters. I sent the specs to Dwayne Clein and they said they would paint it with "Matthews Brushed Aluminum Paint". I need to know how the paint will look versus actual aluminum. A local builder said he can do it with bending the faces and then gluing them to the cans. I know this is a way of doing it as well. Does anyone have photos of jobs like this as well?

What kind of "Brushed"?
Stainless, Aluminum or paint equal?
If I called out a Brushed Stainless (I would not do it in Aluminum if it's exterior) reverse channel letter and got Matthews Brushed Paint, I would be very put out.

I am doing this for an architect who is asking for a "Stainless Look". In my showroom I have cast aluminum letters with a brushed finish, and thats what they want it to look like.

So it's a vague call out, I hate it when Architects do that. I don't have side by side comparison of brushed and Matthews but I do know Matthews will send a sample out to you...it looks more like "etched" aluminum than a brushed. I would be carefull applying an aluminum laminate, even if it's solid laminate, unless you are assured it is exterior grade...I prefer Stainless becasue it it has a richer texture and way more durable.

You can also get standard alum and simply sand light one stroke motion one direction then clear coat. I've done this.

Or, have your reverse channels made and seperately water jet your stainless and epoxy away.

I was thinking of using mill finished aluminum.

I've used finished aluminum for outdoors sign like Wrisco, and it lasts years, it's anodized.
