I would presume that this is solely aesthetic....but I would
think that it would be easier to cut in with burgundy after
painting the returns white!!??

white returns (edges) or leave them the background color.....

Paint the whole thing burgundy then paint the face of the letter white with a foam roller after. Gobble gobble.
