View Full Version : 1st Annual Signs 101 T-Shirt Design Contest
Fred Weiss
02-16-2005, 03:34 PM
Okay students .... here's your next assignment. Something that will become real instead of imagined.
Design a T-shirt for Signs 101. Post entries back to this thread.
Designs can be funny, serious or anything inbetween and use any slogan or motto you like with the idea in mind that it will be a shirt meant to be worn by members and supporters of Signs 101. There are no creative restraints. 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place winners will be decided by a poll of registered members like we did with the Dreem Time contest.
Designs should be limited to no more than 3 spot colors. Nothing photographic. Single color gradients are allowed but not required. Designs may be on the background color of your choice.
Designs must be done in vectors only (uploads to this thread for display should be converted to JPG or other suitable format) and the winners must agree to provide their files in vector format (EPS, AI, CDR or CMX), along with all rights, to Signs 101 on completion of voting.
The 1st place winning design will be screen printed onto garments which will be available for sale to interested members.
1st Place Prize = $100 and three shirts (any size)
2nd Place Prize = Two shirts (any size)
3rd Place Prize = One shirt (any size)
All production and prizes provided by our fellow member, The Design Shop. A portion of any T-shirts purchased will go to Signs 101 to help defray operating costs of the site.
All entries must be posted no later than midnight, Tuesday, March 15th, 2005. A voting poll will begin at that time which will close at midnight, Thursday, March 31st, 2005.
To enter you must be a registered member of Signs 101. There is no cost or obligation to enter. Members may enter as many times as they wish.
As a precautionary note, from a strategic point of view, entrants may want to consider that more than one entry could serve to dillute their vote count since members will only be able to vote for one design. It is permissible, as the contest evolves, to have numerous entries and to withdraw any entry from consideration prior to the commencement of voting.

Fred, we should also have an image size or ratio for the limits of the print area.
TheDesignShop
02-16-2005, 06:31 PM
I can answer that for Fred.
The design should be proportionately no more than 10" x 14" in size. Whatever the final size is, I will resize it accordingly to get the best look.

A couple of reasons why I can't (or won't) do a design,
1; My pc with sign programs cannot "talk" to the one on
the net, can't recieve/send e-mails, nothing, two totally different
machines
2; and the most important reason: I can't Compete with
any of you guys, you're all great, terrific, my mind
(what's let of it), draws a blank when it comes to designing
anything....so far, all you you guys and gals get my vote!!!!

We could just do it black on a white tee and have a coloring contest . . . everybody get yer Sharpie pens out.
I'm open to color ideas/changes.
This is exactly why I like to do my proposals in grayscale.

I've been studying this for several days and decided that I would spend some time with it tonight. In my thinking, it seemed a good idea to carry the look and feel of 101 web to the shirt. So here's my try - and I hope I didnt step out of bounds somewhat replicating the 101 web forum logo.

:Coffee: Here's another one. Here is how I created the handles for the oval. Got a capital "c" in Vivaldi, turned it sideways and rotated it a bit then duplicated it and let it overlap the second one, added the 3 dots, duplicated and mirrored for the other end and welded the lot together. Anyone confused yet. I am...

I'm re-posting this with some larger images...........
#1 and #2 are obviously almost the same, and the green on #1 should be a bright bright apple green.
I forsee the larger image being on the back, with the smaller one being on the front/chest.

If you're still having a problem, try uploading it to the gallery and then post it as an image in this thread using the URL address of the medium sized photo.

Camconcay, the problem you are having is you are directing your link of the image from another site. When you want to upload an image, instead of a quick post, go to the advanced post. Type in your message and scroll down to manage attachments. Click on that and upload your image. It will place it in a thumbnail for you!

Never mind Joy. I fixed it.
The problem was that your JPG's were saved in CMYK color mode instead of RGB. JPG format is intended to be native RGB and, while you can obviously save one in CMYK, most browsers and internet software will not get along with it in CMYK.

It may be of some benefit to repost the contest rules and details. Obviously a number of entries do not meet the criteria.
At midnight tomorrow, the contest closes. Some entries will not be carried forward for the voting. This is primarily an issue of too many colors. Designs may also be excluded if the artwork cannot be supplied in vector format. The reason for this is that they will be printed with spot colors (limit three).
Anyone wishing to have any designs removed from competition because they cannot meet the criteria, or because they do not wish to dillute their chances of winning by having more than one or two entries, should notify me by email or private message.
To all who entered or will be last minute entries, thanks for participating and good luck.
