Contest/Design Off Idea

With all the drama around here lately I thought it would be fun to try something that could remind us of the things that we do agree on. Like how all caps Old English looks like crap, or how we hate to see brush script on a semi. So in the spirit of comradery and fun, I thought we should have a design contest or something similer. To see who can come up with the best design using those elements of design we hate. Like script on an arch, or red on black or what ever. Let’s see what the designers on Signs101 are made of.

Sure, Okay here is my challenge for all contestants that want to play.

I figured we usually do a contest where the subject matter is picked, then you choose what design elements you want to use. I thought it would be more interesting to pick out what elements have to be used but let the creative people of signs 101 pick their own subject matter. So…

You have to use brush script and all caps Old English together in one design. Other then that, no other rules. I figure that in it self is challenging enough. You can have the fictional company be who ever you want. Kudos points will be awarded for those that make us laugh and will probably help you win, when we vote.

Maybe a week turn around for designing this steaming pile of crap. Entries due next thursday (18th) and post friday (19th) or entries due next sunday night (21st), post monday morning (22nd). This would give everyone time to put this together in between real jobs.

Just an update for you all,
I'll be extending my font special for a bit longer, it seems there isn't as much interest as I initially thought.

I wish I would have known this before I bought that new Harley out in my garage today.

Well, you have to realize that the level of interest here is inversely proportional to the level of pressure & that would be pretty low, meaning a spoof contest to make something that needs to appeal to no one, using decidedly humorous parameters... that is so much NOT like work, that the level of interest is high & the pressure is low.

You have elected to climb the uphill battle of establishing a new charitable foundation, at a time when even the most noble of causes has to realize that the concept of charitable organizations has suffered some reputational blows this decade. This is not at all implying anything other than selfless volunteer service from you... but you have chosen a path that will require a lot of hard work. It is honorable of you to choose that, but folks here are often here as an escape from their work day. We all have made our own choices regarding charitable donations or service.

I think it will be a disservice to yourself & all the good that will come from your project if you harbor a negative feeling when people choose not to give.

OK, I didn't know about this contest until 5 minutes ago, and I don't know where people are actually "submitting" their artwork. So, I'm just gonna upload mine here.

I don't use these fonts in my studio... in fact we have a rule about not using certain typefaces. I thought it would be fun to do something with brush script and old english. I actually had to re-load them into the font list temporarly! HA

My all time most hated fonts are Algerian, and Papryus. I've only seen those typefaces used professionally in a correct manner, twice. Take a look at the Country Crock butter tub... Algerian. But it works there.

Now for my submission, well, like I said, I only took 5 minutes of my time. I'm sure I could have done better, but, hey, it's 1:35 in the morning here and I'm just waiting on the router table, and had some free time to goof off with. I wish I had a better concept to work off of... this was just off the top of my head. I'm thinking if I had more time, I could make the font choices look a little better.
