Tony is Gerber going to screw the people that first jump on board like they did with the 2.5 upgrade? First people that upgraded didn't get the design seat that was offered later for the same price?

The functions that I'm viewing briefly, are the files created still confined to being plt. files?

I'm running omega 2.6 my favorite features over the flexi-Illy I have is the vector capabilities. Omega rocks in my books and a workhorse for spot color prints.:notworthy:

I would assume so.... in order to print/plot they need to be plt. files (i think). I'm sure you can still export as anything elso though, as you could before.

I know they can be exported as TIFF, JPEG, EPS, and other file formats. Had to do a Christmas display that required sending in a cad format to cut steel fitting to a printed graphic. Just got ahead of myself. Next up could be an edge that prints better than 300dpi? Or just wishful thinking on my part.

My Edge2 prints 600x300dpi.... does that count?

Wow, Signage you sure have a way with words. Tony is a super guy and Gerber a quality company. I wouldn't be so quick to impune them as you have.

I agree 110%
I only agree 50%... for 2 reasons... I met Brian the same time I met Tony, & I'm sure Brian would agree 100% that Tony is a great guy, and didn't say or imply anything to the contrary...
..and the other reason, is because I forked out around $500 at that same meeting to be the first one on my block to help Gerber recoup some of their expenses for investing in Tony to develop 2.5, as I am guessing Brian did as well...
so, to find out later that they were giving the design station FREE to get others to pony up the 5 bills... but expecting us loyal first wave upgraders to pay $700 for the design station was a royal screwing in my words too!

Ok Doug, thanks for the back story. Wasn't fully aware of that bit. I'll back off.
Back to topic:
To my mind, Gerber has always been pricey but their stuff is good and solid. Also I've not personally encountered anything that could be described as chicanery with the Company itself. I did have a falling out with one of their distributors however at one time. (we're back together)
And I've been buying Gerber since the Four B. Lots of upgrades, two stations.
But it does sound like you and Signage got the short end of that stick.

I think all the features look really cool.
Will the upgrade include the layout station?
Or would I have to buy (2) copies?

I too jumped on the band wagon and upgraded to 2.6.1. Like isign I find out about the free design station. When I called Gerber to inquire about the offer they basically told me "sorry you've already upgraded, we've got your money and if you want the design station you'll have to pay". And, "oh yeah thanks for your loyalty". Kinda goes along the same road as the distributor that I bought my equipment from. Haven't seen hide nor hair from Advantage Sign Supply since they dropped off my equipment that faithfull day. But that's another chapter. I'm not mad about it, just dissapointed.

You know...what you're complaining about with the previous design station offer is understandable but I currently find a similar situation with almost all special offers from all suppliers I deal with, certainly not only Gerber. It's tough to be positioned on the dividing line but equally understandably, every company has to draw the line somewhere. At least Gerber states their policies and sticks to them. This complaint is the equivalent of complaining about every item you ever bought that subsequently went on sale, so honestly I think this is a moot issue at this point.

Gary all I was saying is I do not think I would be the first to purchase an upgrade from them, I would rather wait they will most likely add some type of sweetener! JM.02

I'll help ya bump this up Tony
there's a special offer and discount going on to upgrade right now so waiting might cost you more.

Brian...I understand your point but trying to predict the best future sale and time your purchase accordingly is kind of like buying stocks or gambling. You just have to make intelligent decisions, understand that at some point in the future things may be more or less advantageous, be satisfied with that knowledge and move on. You know, I found myself in a similar position with that last design station/upgrade offer. I had planned to upgrade and get that offer but I kept procrastinating and finally called Gerber 8 hours after the offer expired to see if they could still give it to me because I really meant to call yesterday...they told me no and I decided to just wait then until the next version...and here we are! Personally, I think these are fairly attractive upgrade offer prices at this time.
Wondering if we could get a trial version of this to review, I have 2.61 but want to review before I upgrade my version as seems to offer many new options. Got to hold onto some monet to seem me through thr financial storm here in the UK ?
Tony could this be organised, Spandex here in UK never seems motivated to help with things like this..
Thanks

Hello All,
What is the cost to upgrade from Omega 2.6.1 to Omega 3.0 ???
:thankyou:
Tony Teveris
01-26-2009, 01:29 PM
2.6 to 3.0 will be $395
Starting with 2 or more upgrades will include a discount.
If you own a Standard Omega and a Layout Station then you need 2 upgrades.
If you bought or upgraded to 2.6 after Dec 1, 2008 your upgrade will be free to Omega 3.0
For those that want to try before you buy you can still install with out a "key" or upgrade password and operate in "demo" mode. This means no output but all design functions are possible.
This is just a reminder to myself to upgrade now....before it's too late!

Hi, kind of late on the bandwagon here, just now noticed the new 3.0 on GSP today. Love what I see in the new features, would love to upgrade!! (using 2.61 now)
We understood that the new version would include support for more printers and plotters. Is this true, and what are the models "added"?
Thanks for any info!

The Tempo 600 is the only new cutter I know of but I will check. What do you mean by "printer", paper, ink-jet ?

Checked this morning, the only device that new is the Tempo 600. meltsner what are you looking for?

All the printers. No, actually concerned most about the wide format photo printers (Epson 7800/9800) and wide format solvent printers (Mutoh). Never really looked into them in detail, but we might need to soon as our Maxx2 is getting older (and outdated)!! Our paper (laser) printers are set up fine.
Is there a list somewhere perhaps that lists all supported wide-formats?
Thanks!

Would like to know what the Upgrade from GRAPHIX ADVANTAGE™ to OMEGA 3.0 would cost.

GA to 3.0 is around $1000
Spandex here in the Uk are heavily discounting upgrades to V3 as we have in the last 4 months upgraded to 2.61 we are reluctant to spend any more on a new version if not really worth the expense.
Does anyone see benefits of V3 from what they have read as it's hard to judge change from text mailings or perhaps TONY T could provide a demo so I could review ( I could supply dongle numbers to proove we are users?).
Spandex here don't really want to help...

the smart edit feature has grown by leaps and bounds....after putting on outlines and shadows, you can go back and edit the text, and now you don't have to manually redo the outlines and shadows....being able to touch up images right in composer instead of going to another program is nice as well...these are only a couple of the features that i like in 3.0

I too love the new features. I like that I can make changes without having to re-do everything. the software is set up to work like real people work and that's is what I like about Gerber software.

Is there any support for large format printers? I have a JV3 and an Edge for printing. I have a GS15plus, a Summa D620, and a Graphtec FC8000 for plotters. I use no less than 4 programs just to get things done operating all of my equipment. I can't use the full functionality of my Summa and Graphtec with Omega 2.61, but I can with Flexi and Signlab. It sucks having to keep up with all these licenses...
