You may choose more than one.
Also, Would having a Chisel version make you more likely to purchase a
font? I know a lot of people here don't care for chisels, but I noticed quite
a few in the recient design contest.

I voted for a bold headline typeface Steve.
Mark me down for one vote against a beveled version.

Our script fonts sell best. Especially Snapper. Other than scripts people
seam ot like Marquee, which is a bold headline font with a chisel version.
If there are any styles I have left out of the poll, please let me know...

Casual, but not so cartoony, a little cleaner would be nice.

I'm with the no-chisel crowd... I use Marquee A LOT.. but never with the chisel... and Snapper is a beautiful, multi-functional script that deserves to be a best-seller.
Would like to see a bold headline font too... and no to the bevels...

I can make this more difficult for you....I'd love to see more font families. I'm quickly replacing most of my old standby fonts in favor of more selections with different weights and options. I bought the entire Bodega Serif family a while back and have used the snot out of it. I'm buying the Bodega Sans as soon as budget allows. I know, it's a lot to ask of a small foundry...just answering the question.

I understand. It probably wont supprise you that those are among the
best sellers....Puff Daddy, Roadhouse, Cricket, and California Plug. And
as one who's background is mostly ShoCard, Window Splash, Grocery
Banner....they are much easier.

Yes...more difficult:covereyes: I noticed that in some of your work, I think
the Early Bird Special Signs....incredable! I've thought of doing that with some
fonts, but usually by the time one is finished, I'm so sick of it that a bold, lite,
condensed or italic version is out of the question. Thanks for the suggestion.

Old school, sharp serif, bold and thick & thin sign writers display fonts.

I'm sure that you sell the hell out of those. To me they and their brothers represent sign writer schlock, a hand you use when you don't have time to do it properly.
If you want to do an interesting face, watch the movie Blazing Saddles. In one scene in the governor's office there's just a glimpse of a door lettered 'Attorney General' in a rather narrow high waisted face with a double stroke for the top of the 'A' and an interesting treatment on the curves of the 'O' and, I assume, all other characters with rounds. It's a quite nice hand, very late 19th century. If you do it, you simply have to name it 'Hedley'

That would be a hilarious name, bob. I love your sometimes droll suggestions.
Steve, I think you need a slab serif. hahaha
Actually, I voted for retro. My second choice would be bold headline.
While I love a good period font, some of them are used as much as Flamey uses Cricket.
Thanks for asking!
Love....Jill

I'm always looking for interesting ideas, I'll get Blazing Saddles. Not a big
fan of Mel Brooks humor, but I guess I don't have to watch the whole thing.
Thanks for the suggestions.:Coffee:

I went for Bold, Headlines. I am a little worn out on scripts. I think all to
often sign designers resort to them, and what could be an interesting design winds
up looking like every other sign. Same with the chiseled fonts. I could
definitely see how these are your best sellers, but I think that is because they
are what people resort to. You can make an alright design with all of the
scripts out there and combine it with a chisel. You can make a great design by
thinking outside of the box with a different set of typefaces.
I also like the comment about font families. Bodega is a great one, as are a
plethora, and it can really add to layouts to have to option of thinning it down
a little, or adding some girth, etc.

So tired of seeing the thousands of Bold Headline fonts that all look exactly like Arial Bold !

Thanks to everyone who participated in this poll. I was really surprised that
Retro got so many votes. I thought Script and Casual would be most
popular.
Hedley will not happen unless someone can send me a clear graphic of that
door. I rented the movie and watched it on my 55" HD TV and it still is too
hard for me to see any detail that bob spoke of.
I have about 10 font projects at some stage of development, but I will
make an effort to include more bold headline, a bold script, and one old
skool type face. Probably some chisel as I enjoy doing them. I have to keep
it fun or it gets too much like work.
Poll closes tomorrow so still time to vote.

Hmmmmmm, Don't know, but I suppose any style can be distressed so it
would need it's own catagory.

dafont is ok, but the quality of many of them is less than optimal.
