for the lazy or inept..........
here's a before and after...including tracing, scanning, vectorizing in COREL CX
and adding a little color...I've spent an hour getting to this point.
It's not difficult. Try it...you'll like it.

I'm a one man show, and you never know when I could wake up one day and be unable to work (sick, family emergency, etc.) Knock on wood.
So the shadows around the chin strap and the strap around the hat are not vectors but rather painted in with an airbrush technique?

Ken, just like all the other shading on the rivits, the stripes in the flag, the dimples in the hat... after creating a vector shape... just using a gradient fill, +/or some transparency can create a more realistic result... but I'd guess it is still vectors
