I don't see boxes either? Anyhow, here are links to some of the tests that have been done.

There's much more on the forum I posted the link to. The most toxic substance in the liquid is the nicotine. It's considered a poison and you need to be careful not to od and keep it out of reach of pets and children. Not all of the liquid comes from China. There's several manufacturers in the US. The main ingredient in the liquids is pharmaceutical grade propylene glycol, then there's the flavorings. HERE is the wikipedia page on them.
It's tough getting testing done because these are not regulated by the FDA and they don't contain tobacco so they can't be regulated by the ATF. There's several private studies going on as we speak though.
There's several anticipated stumbling blocks with these, Government won't like them because they will be losing tax $ they're getting from cigarettes, Big tobacco won't like them because they'll be losing business, Big Pharmaceutical companies won't like them because they'll be losing $ on their NRTs. Only time will tell what the future holds.
I understand everyones skepticism. Especially the non smokers. I was skeptical until I tried it. Maybe I'm an "idiot" according to signmeup, but I'm an idiot that feels (and smells) much better than she did before she quit smoking. You can take it or leave it. Everyone has a different opinion and that is mine :). I think it's brilliant and thought someone here might be able to benefit from it.

Some pretty nasty responses. I guess you've hit a sore spot or two.
Looking at this from the non-smoker angle, you're already polluting your body and the air around you with the cigarettes and their smoke. At least with this little set up you're not submitting someone else to the smoke.
I know a few smokers who have no desire whatsoever to quit smoking. This would make life a whole lot more pleasant for their children or anyone else who spends any amount of time around them, as well as being considerably cheaper.

To quit smoking you must first have the desire to quit. I started smoking when I was 8 and smoked for 21 yrs. I tried to quit several times but never really wanted to. Until my first child was born. Then the thoughts of family history with cancer and also the effects to her, hit home. I laid them down one day and never picked them up again.
It took me about 5-6 weeks to really get over the cravings. That was over 9 years ago and I still want one sometimes. I got brave and tried one about 4 months ago. Lets just say I would rather eat it than smoke it. It is just not for me anymore.
As far as the e-cig you can keep them. Without any knowledge of what is in them and no medical studies, I would stick to the real thing if I had to have something.

I can't believe that grown up people would seriously consider sucking on a little tube that lights up on the end and makes pretend smoke. It would look really good with one of those awesome phones that people stick right in thier ears. Tres chic.

I'll take the 1 :). It's also not the same grade they use for antifreeze, etc. Note I said "pharmaceutical grade".
You mean a bluetooth signmeup? Another great invention, imo ;). I'd rather "pretend" to smoke than do the real thing.
Here's a little tidbit of info with some statistics of people who actually quit smoking cold turkey (3-5%)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smoking_cessation
If smoking were so easy to quit then 5.4 million people per year wouldn't be dying from it.
Bevets, no, it really has been easy. The first couple days I wanted one after dinner, but it was fine once I puffed on my e-cig. Not only have I quit, but my fiance and mother (who's been smoking 2 packs a day for 30 years) has quit as well. Here's some examples of success stories from New Years Resolutions..

There's many ways to quit smoking. You've just got to find the one that's right for you. The most important thing is quitting itself. No one wants to be another statistic!

Awesome! You're one of the 3-5% that has the willpower to do it! More than me that's for sure :)

Actually willpower had nothing at all to do with it and yes as a matter of fact I do run Amsoil in the Busa.

I quit 50 times before I finally managed to be successful. I am therefore part of the 95-97% who failed, -and- the 3-5% who succeeded.
The key thing is not to give up on yourself.
Another key thing is not to substitute one bad habit for another.

Cold turkey 28 years ago. It was easy. I stopped lighting the ends of the things. The secret? You have to want to quit. Most smokers don't really want to quit....they enjoy smoking. They only want to quit because they know it's bad for them.
I can't wait to see my first bluetooth wearing e-smoker in real life. What a hoot!

Riddle80, good for you for quitting smoking! Now get rid of that silly crutch.
This came from your Wiki link about smoking statistics:
"Quitting "cold turkey": abrupt cessation of all nicotine use as opposed to tapering or gradual stepped-down nicotine weaning. It is the quitting method used by 80[7] to 90%[8] of all long-term successful quitters. "
This is likely due to the cold turkey quitters really wanting to stop smoking verses the smokers who know they should stop but don't really want to.

Wanna quit, look at this: http://www.wimp.com/badhabit/
Grab a counter from here:
http://www.xarka.com/freeware/quitcounter.html
it gives you stats like these:
Free and Healing for Eleven Months, Five Days, 22 Hours and 57 Minutes, while extending my life expectancy 66 Days and 7 Hours, by avoiding the use of 19094 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me $4,211.58.
