Actually, this gets caused more often than not by the flag inside the subtank coming unglued from the bag and not flagging the sensor at all, causing it to continuously run, thinking that the tank isn't filling up. I've had to disassemble and reglue at least 25 tanks.
If by chance you're printing on a Roland, VersaWorks has a built in module that will do this perfectly.
In Illustrator it's pretty straightforward using the Variables window.
VSi can absolutely make great reds. Just the canned 'generic vinyl' profile and RVW-43K red is a perfect PMS 185/186 match.
Definitely sounds like your printer profile is off, OR you have a mismatch between the embedded profile in the art files, and the output file selected in Versaworks.
on the last step before you hit enter, you have to manually move the carriage all the way to the left and make sure its as hard against the wall as you can. THEN hit enter
A few things.
First the tension on your belt is probably too low, or the belt is junk and isn't holding tension.
If when doing the limit position setup, the machine isn't pulling the carriages apart for you, then the first step isnt being done correctly. It should say, set to home, then you lock...
scan motors have a lifetime expectancy of 1500 hours, not 5000.
Separate the carriages and slide the print carriage back and forth, then the cutter carriage. The print carriage should glide free and smooth since the scan motor and belt are not attached to it.
