Mac only. I only do vinyl though, no printing so I don't need a PC for a RIP station.

Illustrator assumes that "white" is paper and treats it like an absence of ink. If you want white to act like a color you need to make a spot color swatch for it.

Make your gradient, then go to filters/pixelate/color halftone. For a black-only screen put "0" in for the cmy color values. Change the radius to make the dots larger or smaller.

Had this happen to me just this week. I quit Flexi & and all was fine when I started it back up. Maybe a Flexi memory glitch?

All Mac here too. Got a new 2.66 Ghz Dual processor Mac Pro here at the "real" job. Only 2 Gb of ram but is still rocks! Have a Mac at home, too. Little eMac that's five years old and still going strong. My mom's on her third PC in five years.

You can also use "glyphs" in the newer versions of Adobe Illustrator (& InDesign). Shows an entire map of all the characters in the font and you can just click to insert the one you want. Great for Dingbats and the good script fonts that have alternate versions of all the characters.
