  1. Tech stuff...

Thought I'd share the tech part of my weekend. I'm pretty happy with both of these, especially considering their benefits to my line of work. Thought maybe some of you may be interested...they were both 'new to me' tech stuff. 1.) Sony SmartWatch: Kind of hard to have a techie watch not look...
  2. Never pat your lawyers butt in court...

I guess you can still do it in court but you better wait til the gavel falls.

  4. Signs App

I just switched from an iPhone (have had abour three generations...always loved it) to the Galaxy Note II. I can't imagine going back. The iPhone doesn't have anywhere near the capability. I can do estimates and quotes in Excel, right on the phone, open up files that the iPhone can't, etc. For...
  5. Signs App

I think I have the dimensions pretty well memorized, but downloaded your app for quick reference or to show customers. Just a thought: In the installation portion where it shows the minimum and maximum heights of 48" and 60", it might be helpful for those not familiar with the code to add a...
  6. Sign falls in airport and kills a young boy

I agree with what you're saying to some extent. I worked for a national electrical sign company and there were instances of attempted lawsuits. While I don't know all of the specifics, I know they didn't lose lawsuits that were clearly the fault of the installer not following proper installation...
  7. Sign falls in airport and kills a young boy

I guess what I'm not clear on is if FCI installed the displays or subbed that out. Agreed, the lawyers will go after compensation from whomever they think they can get it from. I thought there was mention that FCI manufactured the sign but a different company installed it. Maybe that's not the...
  8. Sign falls in airport and kills a young boy

''Fish Construction created a detailed drawing of the signs showing precise materials and assembly, which were approved by other defendants. Fish Construction allegedly modified the drawings to increase the thickness of the sign's front panel, which added to the sign's instability, according to...
  9. What apps do you use?

Favorites: Voxer - Great for quick "walkie-talkie" type conversations with family and friends when texting isn't safe or convenient. Construction Master Pro Calculator - I have the actual calculator but the app comes in handy for when I happen to not have the calculator on-hand. MapQuest -...
  10. Frosted Glass Look for Outdoor Sign

Depending on your supplier, they may charge you for the full sheet of acrylic, so you may just want to have them cut both pieces for you from one sheet (or purchase the whole sheet for whoever does the cutting) and backspray the 'V' prior to mounting it to the background panel. Then you could...
  11. Frosted Glass Look for Outdoor Sign

Agreed on the P95. I'm about to do a sign using .375''. There isn't much of a price difference either.
  12. Frosted Glass Look for Outdoor Sign

What's the customers definition of a low budget?
  13. Install pricing question

I wouldn't touch it /price it without artwork. Hopefully they sent you something...?
  14. Joe Diaz Video - CorelDraw

Very cool. That downtown wall dog project is greatness. Nice work and nice presentation.
  15. how to start in pylon design?

Agreed and that's what I figured...just seems kind of misleading. Not taking anything away from them either...all of their work looks really nice. I guess if I see a sign under a "Lit Sign Gallery", it looks like they manufactured the sign as opposed to simply replacing the face. Anyway, nice...
  16. how to start in pylon design?

Same website name? Not sure what ya mean. I was referring to all of the pylon signs under the "Lit Sign Gallery" in the Portfolio section. Just confused because it looks like they've done pylons...?
  17. Another new sign

Man you've got some great talent. Wish I had some of that. Very nice.
  18. how to start in pylon design?

You need to be familiar with pertinent codes (setbacks, sight triangles, minimum clearances, maximum heights, etc.), engineering requirements, engineer-stamped drawings, access to/employment of a master sign electrician, estimating the job, have the required tools, machinery, and...
  19. Window Banding Installation

Quick sketch... The fat part of the keyhole goes over the screw head. The narrow part of the keyhole slides over and hangs on the shaft of the screw.
  20. Window Banding Installation

I'd use .187'' acrylic or 6mm ACM/ACP and cut a keyhole at each end. Run a screw into the million and the panels could easily be removed and rehung.
