  1. digital prints and shrinkage

It's obviously not directed to you specifically, because I've never been to your shop. But I have had to broker out jobs many times when my printer was down or whatever, and I see this very often. Some shops don't want to print on what I have spec'd out (for my clients) because the rolls of...
  2. digital prints and shrinkage

One thing I should point out is that small shops without a lot of inventory on hand face this problem every day. They can't outright afford $2000 worth of materials just to get a roll of cast laminate and vinyl. So they see the cost of the materials vs. how much potential job will yield, and end...
  3. digital prints and shrinkage

By my example above, it's clearly more than double the cost...(like 3X) but remember, it's only one component. Double the material costs does not equal double the sign cost. Yes, the better way to make the sign is to leave 1/8" to 1/4" border around the print, showing colored substrate. BUT...
  4. flatbed UV question about cleaning signs

Signs going into factories should be made by the sign guy with heavy cleaning in mind. I used to deal with food processing factories, and steam and hot water were used periodically to clean the whole place. With that in mind, I'd laminate the signs with Polycarbonate.
  5. digital prints and shrinkage

Cost of the cast vinyl should be an insignificant part of the overall price of the sign. Especially if you want to keep this customer happy, and still make the sale. Let's say you both agree on a price per sign, say $50, if you are installing 20 signs in his facility. Let's call the sign...
  6. Vinyl mounted to masonite?

It will curl right off the edges. If it's "just an inside sign" there are many other options that I can think of that would be more suited. If you are dying to use home depot grade boards, then shower board would do the trick in a pinch. Just wipe the surface with denatured alcohol before vinyl...
  7. Vinyl mounted to masonite?

Just Don't! Please... for the love of industry standards!!!
  8. Hey Fellers and Montroy.

Anyone can claim they are the "BEST" without having to prove or validate it. Now saying you're "First" or "#1" has to come from some kind of poll, vote or study. (even if it is narrow and flimsy)
  9. Signstech Laminator

SignsTech is a good company to deal with. Leevar Wang always gets back to your questions/issues right away. Always willing to make things right, help you out, or give you discount for being a repeat customer.
  10. Hey Fellers and Montroy.

Last I dealt with Grimco directly... was 2008. But more recently when they were Proveer in my neck of the woods, before the take-over, they had Oracal. Which is probably why I thought Grimco carried Oracal still.
  11. Hey Fellers and Montroy.

Oh crap! They don't carry Oracal? Since when? I used to get it from them not too long ago.
  12. Hey Fellers and Montroy.

I used to deal with Proveer in my area. That got absorbed by Grimco. So I just re-introduced myself back with Grimco. Got off the phone with them and they are happy to have my business back. They have a local delivery route too. Feller's does not. Her and I had a nice conversation about Frank...
  13. Hey Fellers and Montroy.

Say, "That's great... you have your materials, now go watch a YouTube video on how to install it. Best of luck!"
  14. New Logo for fairly new sign company

Change your avatar to a selfie and watch them break their necks. (I'm obviously familiar with motorcycle forums... they love biker chicks)

Unless you're cute... then watch everybody stumble all over themselves to help you out. :ROFLMAO:
  16. a heat gun for me?

When you want to stop messing around, get an IR Heater. https://www.44tools.com/p-631-ir-wrap-heater.aspx
  17. Odd question, can you put eco solvent ink in a aqueous printer.

Yes, the printer shown above will be running LED cure UV ink sets. Cures under a very specific wavelength of UV light. Not the same as the flatbed UV cure inks that have the mercury vapor bulbs. The ink manufacture that I'm working with has specifically developed it to be Epson DX7 compatible...
  18. Hey Fellers and Montroy.

There are still protected trades out there. Maybe I should get my contractors license.

  20. New Logo for fairly new sign company

Hey Dan, where can I get a copy of your newest book. I'd like to have it on my desk to show potential new clients. And if anybody asks why I charge so much for branding and marketing, I can have some external case studies to back it up, other than my own client list.
