Don't know about the VS540, but I have a VP540 which was drifting in the cutting process a while ago. I got a wire brush and a bit of solvent onto the grit wheels and solved the problem. There was a lot of gunk embedded around the "pins" thus reducing the depth they were penetrating into the liner.
