Anyone else use a ramdisk for scratch disk?

I recently had to rebuild my main design computer, I am still running xp 32bit, but installed 6 gigs of ram anyway. I set 3 gigs of the ram up as a ram drive (using superspeed ramdisk plus), and pointed my photoshop temp directory to that drive. It has boosted my photoshop performance by a considerable amount. I just was wondering if anyone else is doing this?

I run a 160gb 7200 rpm drive that I use as a scratch disk. I'm stepping up to 64bit Windows 7 on Monday and I'm curious how the 6 gigs of ram I have will fair. We've been running a Beta copy of Windows 7 for a few weeks and I'm very happy w/ it.

Depending on how much ram you have now, you might notice a big speed difference or you might not notice much difference until you start working with bigger files.

The main reason I have the ram disk setup is that its about 50 times faster then a 7200 rpm drive. Since adobe cs3 products only utilize 3 gigs of ram for files, a ram disk can allow photoshop to use even more of the ram. Then again with 6 gigs on a 64 bit os, 1 gig can be used for the OS, 1 gig for photoshop, and 3 gigs for editing files, that only leaves 1 gig free. This winter I plan on upgrading my main design computer to 16 gigs of ram, 13 gigs of which will become a ram disk and will be used as a scratch disk. Since I cant get flexi 8.1 to install under windows 7 x64, I am going to be stuck with xp x86 for some time.

I've been running Flexi on x64 editions of Windows since 8.0. I've also been using Flexi 8.6v2 on Windows 7 x64 RC1 with no issues. My main design station is running Flexi 8.6v2 on Windows Vista Business x64.

You just need to make sure that the driver for your hardware key (security dongle) is the 64bit version then Flexi opens right up.

Sorry to be a :thread

I thought flexi 8.5 was the only version working correctly with vista x64 or win7? I know I have run flexi 8.1 on vista 64, but had quiet a few problems and crashes. I wasnt able to plot or print without a crash either.

Version 8.0 was the first 64bit compatible version.
Version 8.5 was the first official Vista compatible version.

I was using version 8.0 on Windows XP x64 for a quite few years before I upgraded my computer and switched to Vista and Flexi 8.5.
