Best Cabinet Sign System?

I am looking to make my first sign cabinet. Grimco has two main suppliers. SignComp and Samuel & Son. SignComp has a lot of great information on their website, but I am trying to find relevant information from Samuel & Son for their EX series extrusions for making a simple hinged sign cabinet.

Basically, I would like to know the types of profiles needed to make a simple 6" deep sign cabinet with a hinged top.

Go for SignComp or Excellart. SignComp has a very detailed drawing on their website showing how a hinged cabinet goes together. A hinged sign is probably the most difficult to make for your first sign, assuming you're building a wallsign, why do you want it hinged vs slide in faces?

Anytime I do a cabinet larger than appropriate for a polycarb face.. I do a hinged retainer for flex face. That way it's easier to service and you don't have to worry about installers in the field trying to reinstall it. Lot of folks like bringing it back into the shop to re stretch and it's just easier.

I want it to be hinged because it is easier to service. The client requested that.

I know SignComp has hinged profiles, which are quite expensive, but I've seen other sign boxes with a piano hinge on it. Anyone know how that is made?

You can literally go for an aluminum piano hinge, welded to the top where the retainer meets the cabinet body, but it's got to be a F trim or something with a subframe like a flex face. Even then, when you get that subframe loose from the main body, you'll find the two parts bow in different ways, and it can lead to some frustrating times trying to resquare and pound the subframe back on.
The thing that makes service easier is remote mounting the power supplies in a location that you can reach with a step ladder while wearing a button up.

There are electrical and sign permits that will be critical parts of the job.
who's installing this for you? If you have a local installer, go to their place, look at all the old cabinets piled out back, and see how they are put together. EX are obviously the cheapest and simplest....all you need is a chop saw, and a screw gun!
Also, you can buy cabinets wholesale for your first few jobs, and concentrate on the graphics and faces etc.
