We have a decent size concrete block lettering project where painted lettering is required. Anyone suggest a quality plotter cut mask that will conform to cinder blocks well and not bleed out? The other issue: These blocks are small, like 8" square with deep, square, mortar returns. Looks like we'll need to get in there with a small brush. Any advice on methods greatly appreciated!

Regular paint mask (or cheap vinyl like Avery A4), heat the edges after you apply it and work them into the texture of the block. Using an almost dry brush brush your paint starting from the mask going into the letter. You're not trying to get full coverage, you just need enough paint to bridge the gap between mask and tape. Once that sets a bit roll on or spray on your cover coats. You'll still get a few bleeds but it will minimize them. Make sure you've got some of the background paint for touching up.
Make sure your customer understands that the letters will look nice and clean from 10' away but if they want to stand 12" from the wall they'll be able to see the variations because of the texture.

ponce pattern would be the best since it's easy to prepare, and easy to see ... probably the way any sane person would go ...
are you wanting the mask so you can spray the lettering without a bleed and getting into the texture? if so, just do a ponce pattern, go around the edges with tape (easy to stick that it's been painted before... ) then use some transfer tape like it's used for airbrushing ... as frisket and block off all the other parts. you can trim with a knife, and they make tapes to go around curves and into grooves for painting that would be amazing in this situation. ... massive pain in the butt ... take the same amount of time and a trim brush and you can do the same thing.
