Distorting Text in Illustrator

Is there a way to distort text in illustrator? I want the top to be straight, but the bottom to be an arc, is that possible? I have tried an envelope distort, but just wind up with a total mess of vectors! Thanks!

See the sample and if that is what you want then select arc lower and use the negative to make it an upward arc from bottom or positive to make it a downward arc.
