Epson s40600 media usage amount

I am looking at purchasing a used epson s40600. The media usage is 75,000 feet square and was wondering if that is considered high or low for a production printer. Just trying to determine how much life it still has in it. It is a 2019 and the nozzle check is perfect.

My personal opinion is always buy new inkjets if you can. That said, my 80600 has 210,000 sqft on it, and started printing in June 2021.

The bigger concern is if it's been run and maintained regularly. They're like old cars—the plumbing LOVES running, but hates sitting. The printout that shows the sqft should also show the last handful of head maintenance (manual cleaning) dates.

I don't think it is being used very much currently which I agree can be bad. The printhead nozzle test is perfect and it is being sold by a reputable company. I agree new is definitely best. I am currently running a 2010 mimaki jv33 that I bought used and ran the wheels off of it. I also learn how to maintain, problem solve and work on my own machines which alot of owners don't do.

It was used only a little — approximately one 160 cm roll per month. The downside of the Epson compared to the Mimaki is that you can hardly replace anything yourself. There’s very little information available online, and most of the time you need special tools from Epson that only their technicians have.

SLShop - I noticed you had a old mimaki before the Epson s40600, are you glad you made the switch? My jv33 is about dead, the printhead is almost shot (going on 6yrs)and it's the 3rd printhead in the machine. I have been eyeing up the epsons because of the reliability and the single head.

Yes, I had a CJV30 that caused a lot of problems. I was then faced with the decision: a new Mimaki or an Epson. I was convinced here in the forum to go for an Epson – best decision ever. The difference between Mimaki and Epson is huge. Almost everything is automated here: media adjustment, printhead cleaning – almost foolproof. Absolutely no issues with clogged nozzles. Changing and loading media is a dream. I can't count how often I cursed at the Mimaki because the film was inserted crookedly. The Epson has a function to compensate for that. I also find that the S40600 prints very quickly – much faster than a CJV30. But I do regret a bit not having gone for the S80 because of the additional colors. The S40 definitely reaches its limits there.
