Gerber Infinity II Plotter error messages

Suddenly, our Gerber Infinity II Plotter show error messages:

008 Y motor and linear encoder are out of sync
023 Linear Axis is Losing Position

How can we fix this problem?

I have had a few of the X/Y optical axis sensors go out over the years. Sounds like your sensor is either going out or just might have a scrap of vinyl/paper stuck in it.
