Not sure if this should have been in the Roland section or color management.
I have a CJ 500 converted to solvent and working fine and also a FJ 42 still waterbased which I have always had some issue with the prints being grainy and not as nice as the CJ printed. Even at the photo mode it was grainy on some prints and others you did not notice. Also on one print where there was a white background (snow) and a bit of shading in the snow, the print looked as if the shade area was sponged on and real patchy. I had wondered about the encodor strip being dirty and causing this but nothing seemed to change the look. Tried different dither settings, rendering intent gradient quality and no change.
Today I added a second setup for the heck of it as a CJ 500 and printed the same file. For some reason no grain and no patchy look in the snow. Added a third printer but the FJ 42 this time and printed the same file with same settings and it was fine, just like the CJ setup. Went back to the original setup (as FJ42) and tried the exact file again with all the same settings and back to the grain and patchy look. So I deleted that setup and the CJ setup and left the new FJ 42 setup and all is fine.
So I don't have a problem now but what would cause a setup to cause a print issue?
I know others have commented about a grainy look to prints and normally its the profiles but in this case it was fixed by setting up the printer again.
I use production manager to print the files.
