Hi, been a lurker and finally signed up for an account. I'm in Altoona, PA in the digital print department at Blair Image Elements. We have 2 HP Latex R2000s, a Summa S3 cutter, and a laminator. My DP group does all the printing and cutting of our printed vinyls, and we print direct to poly and ACM. We have a dedicated vinyl application and solid color cutting and application department. We build for a lot of gas companies, Sheetz, BP, Amoco, etc; and a lot of retail, plus a couple car dealerships brands. I was in magazine printing and graphic design in a previous career, and getting into sign making was great to get back to doing something visual and hands-on after a stint in computer programming. At the magazine career I did a lot of workflow automation on Macs with Applescript and XCode. Here, we have PCs (☹️) but I'm surviving (haha).
I had to get our R2000s back into reliable shape after a couple years (ie before I joined) of not having enough cleaning and maintenance, and now we run very reliably for 20/hours a day. My artists/designers are more production oriented, we put together brand books and sign specs, but we don't get to be creative and make any creative campaigns very often.
Despite my screen name you may see, we don't actually do graphics or wraps on cars, but I wish I did. My main hobbies are SCCA autocross racing, and watching IndyCar and IMSA/Le Mans racing.
