How did you get profiler to print gutters?
All generated by Caldera. That particular sheet was from an older profile build. Now I'm using one with (a slightly less tedious) 1512 patches on 4 pages. I'm not sure how the other RIPs generate their scan patterns. All I know is that scanning that many rows, twice over (or more, given the scan error rate) is a chore. lol

So Caldera is using an x-rite solution of some flavour, to which you bring your i1.
Perhaps you don't want to know that 2371 patches in profiler (3xA3 sheets) brings in a ton of neutral and near neutral patches...

I haven't tried any other profiles (yet). Basically, I just went for the same one I used with my old Mutoh printer, and it seemed to work out really well so I stuck with it. I'll definitely look at the 2371 patch next time. (probably more useful on my S80 than the old Mutoh too). Thanks!

Probably makes more sense on the S80.
1105 is also a good number in Profiler patch generation, for those rough and ready profiles that only deserve a couple of sheets.

Eh it's not so black and white. Sometimes less is better.
Really?

I'd love to not spend half an hour reading each profile by hand.

To quote the good book*
A very general guideline is:the closer your device is to being linear and gray balanced, the fewer the patches you need; and the more non linear and/or colour casted the device, the more patches you need. In some cases you can end up introducing noise when profiling very linear devices if you measure too many patches.
The following page (p176) says we recommend using the ECI2002 target for most CMYK work.

I'll admit that I've always started with the larger patch sets for profiling, and pretty much only using xrite Profiler, and so haven't tested smaller ones, except for where I need a good enough profile.

Do we classify the S80 as a CMYK printer? I mean, we have a larger gamut with red/orange. I'm sure many of the same rules / guidelines apply, per "the good book" which I haven't read -- or maybe there's a bit more gray area regarding certain technical aspects...

This leads me to a mildly interesting thought. OSU branding (OK State) specifies, in their branding guide, they require a CMYK process for Pantone 021. Umm, okay. You guys aren't color management experts (neither am I if I'm being honest), but CMYK can't hit 021. So what is the color you actually want? I can absolutely hit 021 with my "6" color printer. Or are you saying I should disable my red/orange channels just to meet your spec?
