Hi there, a good client of mine is asking me to replace this sign, its like 5 hours from me.
they got a local quote and the quote calls for replacing the sign with polycarbonate sheets 5x5'
my question to the knowledgeable audience here is...are these faces easy to remove?
once removed. is it possible to just insert new faces in there?
customer is not interested on fixing the electrical side of it.
maybe just use some 5x5' acm panels and call it a day?

thanks

I'm not up to date enough on the best solutions to recommend materials, but I can share a warning. We were working on an existing, massive pylon. Our installer was fantastic. He was also a stickler for safety which turned out to be an important feature that day. The sign was hot. The electrical was not in our scope and nothing we were doing should have had anything to do with (just a face change). If the installer missed this he could have been seriously injured. Just sharing a word of caution, if you are doing this yourself, take care.

We do signs like this all of the time. :) Just FYI, this will require a boom lift, so be sure to include the rental cost in your estimate. Typically, the signs have one side of the frame that you're able to remove by unscrewing a few screws and removing the side panel. Once the side panel has been removed, you simply slide out the old substrate and insert the new one. Reattach the side panel and you're good to go.

We HIGHLY recommend surveying the existing substrates or removing them to measure the exact size before cutting the new signs. In the case that you're unable to do so or if the client gave you the measurements, we strongly suggest cutting your new substrates at least 0.25" smaller on all edges. We've experienced situations where we fabricate the new signs based on an estimated size from a ground-level survey or from measurements the client provided, and the signs are too tall or long to fit inside the frame. You can also bring a saw to the jobsite in the case that cutting them down to fit is necessary.

We also suggest bringing a hardware kit with various size screws/bolts, washers and nuts in the case that the existing harware is old and brakes when you're unscrewing the side panel. This has also happened to us before and it's better to come prepared. Otherwise, you'll be running to the nearest hardware store LOL.

Good luck!!!
