HP L65500 media loading waste

Hi,

Everytime i load a media into HP 65500 latex printer, i have 1,5 linear meters of waste. Is it possible to print at the beginning of the media? by using a part of media between the media to print and the drum ? Or another way ?

Because every time i launch a print process i have lot of media waste. With my other printer (mimaki JV33) i can print at the beginning of the roll. I thinks there is a tips to do that on L65500 printer.

thanks for your answers

best regards

Your comparing a industrial machine to a commercial one. The L65500 was designed for throughput and accurate tracking, the front 5' is for the machine to be set correctly and the material is typically left loaded and run until empty. Your JV33 is designed to be loaded and unloaded at will, optimizing material usage at the sacrifice of throughput.

Thanks for your answer 2CT Media. I know that they are 2 different kinds of printers, but i'm looking for a tips to avoid media waste.

For example if i scotch a peace a media before the media that needs to be printed. This peace will enable the loading and eliminate the waste. Have you already tried that ? Do you know another solution?

best regards

We will tape a leader on some types of media for our LX800. Usually the time it takes to tape it on isn't worth the trouble. Have you thought about using the leader and trailer for test prints on you Mimaki?

This is worth a shot.

thanks for your feedbacks.

i change media 2 or 3 times per day so i lost 1,5 x 2,5 m of media 3x per day so approx 10 squares meters per day. With 4 euros per square meter, it represent 800 euros per month ! it's expensive for waste and it's not ecological !

It's worth trying with the adhesive tape or double sided tape.

It is surprising that hp did not plan it, for an ecological printer.

The L65500 is not designed for that kind of use. You should have gone with a L26500 or L360 if you intended to use the machine in that way. Like I said earlier you are trying to use an industrial machine for commercial print work, they aren't designed to be loaded and unloaded on the same roll of material. Those industrial style machines are designed to load the roll and run it in its entirety.

HP designed the machine properly for its intended use. Not trying to be harsh just trying to explain why it works that way.

I've had material jamming with the L310 if I didn't allow a large enough leader as well. I just save the drop and print on it with my SP540V when I can.
I think the HP makes up for the wasted material in efficiency and saving a few feet of vinyl is not worth a head-strike to me.
