HP latex 315 Carriage belt broke / snapped

The carriage belt broke for my HP 315. I shut it down immediately and tried to move the carriage back to the cleaning station but it is making a grinding noise when I move it in that direction. When I move it in the other direction it slides easily. 2 questions I have:

1. Is it ok for the carriage to sit in the middle of the platen for a few days till the repair is made, or should I force it back to the cleaning station. (machine is currently off as I was instructed to do by on screen instructions)

2. Is the belt replacement easy enough for a novice? or should I hire this out to a tech?

I searched this topic and did not see one post regarding this issue so I am hoping it is a common occurrence?

thanks friends.

Let it sit out, don't force it. If you don't manually position and engage the cleaning it won't even help anything.
