HP Latex 700W No-Overcoat But Consumption During Printing

Hello, Although the overcoat option is disabled on paper profile but we’re still observing a considerable amount of overcoat usage during printing. I'm trying to identify the possible cause behind this unexpected consumption.

I reprinted the same job four times, and the consumption was exactly the same in all runs — no variation at all.

What’s interesting is that the overcoat consumption is higher than any of the other inks. I checked older jobs as well to see if this could be related to the recent firmware update.

Now I’m not sure if this is normal behavior or if something changed with the latest update.

and I guess I hadn’t paid attention earlier, but the consumption has been more or less the same all along.

The overcoat printhead is currently around 1900ml. I removed and weighed it — it's exactly 60 grams.

Does anyone know what the normal weight should be? Is it around 68–72 grams?

I assume there’s always some level of consumption to help protect the printhead, which makes sense.

However, the overcoat consumption is still significantly higher than the others, which seems unusual.

It feels like something isn't quite right

The latest image I shared is from a different print job than the one mentioned in my first message.

This recent job was printed a total of six times, using different media profiles — and in every single case, the ink and overcoat consumption were exactly the same.

The reason I’m focusing on this issue is that there was a significant buildup of white overcoating on the rollers inside the waste tank. I cleaned them thoroughly with alcohol.

It might have caused some irregularities, but I think it would be best to keep monitoring the situation a bit longer.

Might be your OC head is not doing too well and it's cleaning it a lot.
Your job is too small to make any conclusion.
But if you print a larger job say 10m2 with coverage the usage should be only some ml.

You are right but during the last routine maintenance, the overcoat consumed almost 20 times more than the others. It would be good if you talked to the service about it tomorrow.

So you have a problem with the printhead.

Are you not using overcoat most of the time? That would explain it as well, nozzles getting stuck over time and it makes it clean and clean more.
