Mimaki JFX 200 and Raster Link Problems?

Hello,

We are new and also we just bought and had installed our Mimaki JFX 200. Our training was very brief. We are having color issues using Raster Link. Many things we have printed have a purple/magenta tint to them. We do use ONYX with our HP Latex and have never had these issues. For example, I can print a jpg I printed in the past for a customer. The image is a Black Crow against a baby blue washed out sky. My Epson printer prints it perfectly, our latex prints it perfectly. Our new Mimaki prints it with magenta highlights and and a light purple sky. We tried printed a file that used a lot of grey tones. Also, the grey was more purple. I fixed that one by choosing color match in Raster and selecting Grey Balance. Some things are printing okay. But, I printed a picture of a field of Bluebonnets ( as we are in Texas) and the Blue sky was more purple and the flowers were more purple than blue. We have tried with different profiles and different settings in Raster Link. Still, something does not seem right.
I feels like I should be able to drop my file into Raster Link, select a profile and print using the default settings and have good results most of the time. This is our experience with ONYX. Only with a few files with ONYX have we had to make changes.
I also, understand that things look different on your screen than they print and the flatbed has more of a matted look. None of these are the case, something is just right. I should not have to spend an hour or two on everything we print trying to find a look the customer might live with. We are not foreign to profiles or printing. Something is just off right now. There are no answers from the people we bought the machine from. I have no confidence in them at all. I will contact Mimaki direct after the weekend and see if we can send prints and files for comparison.
When we purchased our HP latex, the tech came down with several substrates and printed stock files on them. When they installed our JFX 200, the tech had us select a file and he printed it on Foam board. The file we selected printed Okay. But, another we selected printed purple tones. We should have stopped at that moment and dealt with this, but the Tech did not seem that familiar with Raster LInk.
Any help would be great. Something just does not seem right.

thanks

There is something else. No matter what we have tried to print. The printer lays down a couple passes of pure magenta and then comes back over it filling in the rest of the colors. I have watched some videos on YouTube and have not noticed this. Is this normal?

Jfx200

We actually just installed our second jfx200 on Thursday. Yes, you should be able pretty much drop whatever file in rasterlink and print. We print with most vector files using cmyk color values and raster images typically set up as cmyk, but rgb images should print ok, but colors can be too bright in RGb files in some instances. You mentioned the printer leads out with magenta, followed up by the remaining Colors. Yes, this is normal if you are set up with dual cmyk printer. Our other jfx is cmyk + white & clear and does not lead out with magenta like our dual cmyk machine. Did you reach out to your vendor about issues? Our vendor, PDS equipment, is always there to assist us if we have questions or issues. The tech not being that familiar with rasterlink would give me great pause for concern, since that is the rip that comes with the machine. You're absolutely right though, you should not have signed off on the install if your files were not printing correctly (it's actually better the tech asked to use your files so you could See if the files were printing accuratly). It should print great for you as it does for us, that's why we bought a second one. The good news is that you have a great printer, the bad news you need the right tech out there. Your vendor should ask to see samples of printed images from files they send you to see the issue with their own eyes. Then work with you to resolve the issue, either on the phone if it is something that can be resolved easily or send out a tech.

Feel free to give me a call Monday 615-812-3001 we will be happy to assist you with your Mimaki questions . What inkset and color configuration did you go with?

We have duel CMYK. We did talk to someone from PDS equipment a week ago. We were trying to print a file that started as a vector graphic and was saved as a CMYK jpg and an eps. The file was mostly tones of Black. 20% or 40% etc. It did not matter which file, we still got prints that were mostly pink/grey. I created a file using four different 4" squares of different shades of grey/black using Pantone colors and then again using a simple 20% Black or 30% black with no other colors selected. We still got pinkish prints. Tghe guy from PDS said we needed to select Greytones in Raster. This fixed it. But, why should I? If I create a file that is 0%C 0%M 0%Y 40%K , save it as a cmyk jpg, it still prints a purple tinted shade of grey. Is that correct that it uses magenta and the other colors to print 40%K? Also, so far we have not been able to print light blue, it comes out pinkish.
The Tech forgot the dongle when installing, we had to wait an extra day for UPS to deliver it. Our total training was pretty quick. But, I take responsibility for that.

And thank ya'll for your replies. Steve from PDS, we will call.

I guess my other question is, Are there some calibrations on the machine itself that could be off? We think this printer is going to be an awesome machine once we resolve this. I am just a little worried right now. Something just seems off a little.

i don't know about your problem except for one little part.. does any of the profiles you use has "DK" written in the name? rasterlink treat any color that contain Black differently when using "DK" profile (these profiles are for DeepBlack ink instead of Black ink).
